Chuck Fogland
For Secrectary/Treasurer
Student GovernmentStatement of intent,
I, Wendell C. Chuck Fogland           , submit this statement (500 words or less), outlining my qualifications and intent as a Representative on the Front Range Community Colleges Student Government

I
m Chuck Fogland and I am seeking your vote for student government as the Secretary/Treasurer.  I am a 32 year old Political-Science/Spanish double major with a lifetime of experiences ranging from being in a Mexican rap band to making PC boards for Hewlett-Packard, from a rave DJ to a restaurant manager.  I have owned my own business and I have lived all over the West Coast and in Mexico.  I have a multitude of lifes experiences that make me a unique individual with strong feeling of necessity for cultural diversity since its the cornerstone of a free democracy, good for our learning environment and should be openly embraced.  Student government is the foundation, which our college creates its environment and we, the students, pay for it in fees.  We ought to direct that money in responsible ways.  We have the right to good textbooks and qualified instructors.  And, we have the right to a fun and safe learning environment.  Should I be honored with your vote, I will fight for your interests.

Our collective fees are ours and we have a right to know exactly where that money goes and how it is being spent.  Some government officials have been considering raising even more fees by attaching a dollar amount to each credit hour that you invest in your education.  I strongly disagree; college students need their money in their pockets and not for frivolous spending that a few government officials think they need for extraneous projects.  FRCC Student Government does many good things, but we need to be sure we are asking, Do we really need it?  If we dont, we should say no and I will.  If we do, I will unequivocally support it.  But, we need to be careful not to ask, How much money can we get?  Then say, Now lets make programs to fit the funds.

Celebrating diversity should be one of top issues that student government handles and both my personal experiences and my own catholic conviction make me a true soldier for opening up minds and celebrating diversity.

Having a safe and fun environment is key to having a wide and diversified learning experience.  I am committed to maintaining and making a safer and fun environment at Front Range Community College.

Safety is important even though FRCC enjoys a certain degree of innocence and I will fight hard to make sure it stays that way.  However, safety of the student body should not mean infringing upon the rights of the individual and I will fight even harder to make sure our individual freedoms are never compromised.

Should I be privileged with your vote for FRCC Student Government Secretary/Treasurer, I will fight hard for your rights, I will practice responsible spending, I will help facilitate celebrations for a diverse community of students, I will fight to make sure the college is considering your interests when it selects textbooks and instructors and I will represent you with passion and conviction.

Student Government will be holding elections September 23 and 24,
2002 for Student Government Positions.  Get out and vote!
