According to Nicklon: Logically Determining the Real Merge Wednesday, November 6, 2002 Episode 8 Preview
The way I see it, the only fair time to merge the tribes would be when it gets down to seven people. That way the worst possible case for Sook Jai would be having to merge with two people. I don't think Burnett would allow a two person TC. Three would be minimal as far as I am concerned.
If they truly made these rules for gameplay based if the two tribes met on the same beach with even numbers (5-5), then it would only be right that they merge at least with seven. That would then take into account the case that either tribe could lose three immunities after the beach merge and go in with two. Technically, I see it unethical if they assume Chuay Gahn will inevitably lose one of these next two immunities, thus extending the period of time that the two tribes would be seperate but still on the same beach.
See what I mean? Or, my next thought is that they will merge at eight. This would then mean that there is a merge when exactly half of the game is done and exactly half of the players are gone. It would also keep synchronicity with the fact that "every initial tribe formed would begin with eight members." No more big tribe of ten.
So, my guess is that they merge at eight becuase if it keeps up as tribal for much longer, it will be the most predictable season yet. If you want to get technical about it, I see seven being the furthest they could go with tribal and still call fair play on the rules, assuming Burnett won't allow a TC of two. But if they gamble and bet Chuay Gahn will have to lose sometime here, then they could prolong the beach split up to the final five. |

According to Nicklon: Robuhbuh Doesn't Make Merge Sunday, October 27, 2002 Episode 7 Preview
Episode 7... "Assumptions!" Goodness. In Africa, Jeff had us going that there wouldn't be a merge. He said something like "Don't assume anything in this game. One assumption is that you will merge on Day 21," or something to that sense. Hmm... but this time, I think one of two things will happen: 1) Jeff is lying about things being different about this merge, and it is something lame like "two people will win immunity this first time around," or 2) the tribes merge not all at once. I don't know, maybe this is farfetched but... say Chuay Gahn and Sook Jai each sent two members as ambassadors that then stayed on the merge tribe. Wait, maybe that idea is retarded. Actually, I doubt its a possibility, but it would be more interesting than not if they merged at different times. Maybe not even merging and then having a merge tribe of 4 or 6 going to Tribal Council- maybe the "ambassadors" justb get to spend an extra night together at the merge spot to bond or shake alliances, then the remnants in Chuay and Sook follow. Maybe, I don't know. All I know is I doubt Brian will be targeted at merge.
Andy brought up an interesting point. What if the tribes remained in tact, but they all lived at the same camp? Oooo. Or each week, the immunity challenges also double as captain challenges, and the two captains, one for Tribal Council and one for staying back at camp, would then pick tribe members. First it'd be 5-5, then it'd be 5-4... then 4-4... 4-3, 3-3, 3-2 and then down to the final four and they would all participate in voting. Who knows.
Will Chuay Gahn hold through? I think so. Jan is already more out of her head than Paschal was in the final five. Remember Paschal and the reward challenge with all the puzzles? Sean eventually won it and got the Saturn VUE, and everyone was pretty close behind and met up with Sean at the port, but Paschal like was still lost in the jungle trying to put back together his totem pole. Jan thinks bat fetuses will ascend into heaven.
Brian is a shark, grr, he will nibble up Sook Jai. Clay will score points for his golf club. Good thing Jed isn't around, he'd probably like throw it into the ocean thinking it would still be there after he woke up from his third afternoon map of the day. Ted will be lovable and huggable and pose as no threat whatsoever in immunities (unless the challenge is something like a pie eating contest). Helen I think will be the Frank this season and isolate herself from Sook Jai post-merge. My bet is she'll eventually just row out on a boat and never come back. Oh wait, nevermind. Chuay Gahn LOST THEIR BOAT.
I have a feeling Shii Ann is out at the merger. Why? Eh, find out next time on Survivor. |

Final Four Picks Tuesday, October 2, 2002 Episode 2 Followup
4. Ken 3. Erin 2. Penny 1. Brian
I just get this really, really strong feeling that Brian will merge in well with the Sook-Jai shelter alliance. I could be completely wrong of course, but hey... I dunno. Something with the tribe dynamics that points to loose tribal lines. It seems like Burnett has been trying to accomplish that for a few seasons now. He wanted to do the swicth originally in S2... but he never found a time to do it. Then the switches in Africa and even moreso, Marquesas, show an even stronger weakening of tribal lines. I think he did the tribe captain thing for a reason. He couldn't predict what all would happen exactly, but he did know the personalities of Jake and Jan well enough to get an idea of who they would chose; what personalities would clash.
Can anyone else see people like Ken and Brian getting along? Even Clay and Jake. I think MB had some strategy in casting this time around that there are many, many more clickable personalities. Maybe that's just me, but I think it'll be whoever-deserves-to-go post-merge, at least for more tribal councils than we would have expected.
Those are my thoughts and final four picks... with Helen, Jake and Clay being close-calls. Ted is a good combo of brains and brawn and all... but man, I just don't see him getting far because of a physical threat. Hopefully he can outwit that though. |

According to Nicklon: Put That Thing Back Where It Came From Or So Help Me Sunday, September 29th, 2002 Episode 2 Followup
I hope someday they switch the tribes around so I can call them Sook-Gahn and Chuay-Jai. Chuay-Jai I like even moreso, it's just so fun to say.
And after watching Stephanie's video on the CBS site for Episode 2, an alliance with her, Jed and Robb seems all the more apparent. And is it just me, or was Robb the only one visibly happy in the second immunity victory for Sook-Jai? Reminds me of a lot like Rob on Rotu during Episode 6 of Marquesas.
Then, hopefully, we can call Ken/Erin/Jake/Shii Ann/Penny the "Shelter Alliance." Which of course is the best name for an alliance ever. If that seems to be the case, it is what I will call them anyway. Anyway, I forsee Sook-Jai throwing an IC here pretty quick.
Hey, wow, one tribe losing the first two immunities is just more common than not in Survivor. Boran... Maraamu... yep. Boran ends up sticking together til the end, and Maraamu almost completely dies out (heck, but Vecepia won in the end). Anyway, I just remember being so worried about Boran not being able to recover right before Episode 3 of Africa. I think things will turn out OK for Chuay-Gahn. Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing an even 5-5 merge with these folk. Wow, maybe even Chuay-Gahn losing the first three and Sook-Jai losing the three right before the merge. That would give some dynamics with the merge and all... one tribe really accustomed to TC, while the other went a while without a loss at all.
Ted was looking to be a really cool contestant there for a while, he has a good mix of brains and brawn. I don't know what the heck happens next week... seems harsh between him and Ghandia. Clay and Brian seem to be the only stable ones in Chuay-Gahn. There's something about Brian that seems cool. I don't know exactly what, but he seems like he knows what he's doing. Maybe that he adapts so well... out of all the younger people (if you consider him to be one), I don't ever recall him complaining about his tribemates being older or whatnot. I forsee him making merge definitely. I wonder what he and Ken would do in the merge... they seem like they're on top of everything. It'd be cool if they worked together, that or they'd be hardcore rivals. |
