We decided a long time ago that supporting a charity while we walked was going to be a priorty.  We came up with the idea when a friend of mine ran a marathon for cancer research.  Everyone who donated to her charity pledge $1 or more per mile.   Because our goal is a little over 1000 miles we are hoping that you will donate 1 penny (or more) per mile.  However,  you can also donate a set amount.  Believe me, any donation will give us a thrill. I have corresponded with a coordinator of Appalachian Voices and although she gave us several ideas about how to send money to the organization we have decided that we would like to send the money in one lump sum.
