| Introduction The Han dynasty lasted from 202 B.C to 220 A.D. Its founder was Han Gaozu and the last Emperor was Xian Di . It is divided into Eastern and Western Han. Beginnings The Han dynasty had its beginnings when its founder Han Gaozu, Liu Bang defeated his rival , Xiang Yu and claimed the empire. Both had originally been the two leaders who led the rebellion to overthrow the Qin Emperor. Liu Bang was originally a peasant farmer who joined with his friend Xiao He (who later became his Prime Minister) to start a rebellion. He was aided by the strategist Zhang Liang and later Han Xin who helped him defeat Xiang Yu. Liu Bang then proclaimed himself the Emperor of Han and his dynasty name to be Han. With the Han dynasty being one of the most prosperous dyansties, that is why many things were named after Han. |
