Basilisk -a.k.a King of Serpents; born from a chicken's egg, hatched beneath a toad; its venomous fangs and murderous stare makes the Basilisk the most deadly monster in the world; spiders are its mortal enemy; flees only from a rooster's crow, which is fatal to it
Beauxbaton  -Wizarding school; participated in the Triwizard Tournament; its coat of arms consists of 2 crossed golden wands emitting 3 stars each; presently under Madame Maxime
Bezoar -Stone from the stomach of a goat; antidote for most poisons
Blast-Ended Skrewt -Creature that looks like a deformed lobster with legs sticking out in very odd places and no visible head; when young is about 6 inches long, pale and slimy-looking; when older can grow up to 10 feet long with a long sting that can blast fire, its armour can rebound relatively weak spells, its vulnerable spot is its underside
Boggart -A shape-shifter: takes shape of what frightens victim the most; likes dark, enclosed spaces; destroyed by laughter
Bubotuber -Plants that look revoltingly like thick, black gaint slugs that protrude vertically from the soil; yellowish green pus is very valuable as a remedy from acne Dark Mark -Voldemort and his followers send it when they kill; "a colossal skull, composed of what looked like emerald stars, with a serpant protruding from its mouth like a tongue"

Dementor -Foul creatures that infest the darkest, filthiest places; they glory in decay and despair and drain peace, hope and happiness out of the air; currently guards Azkaban.
Dementor's Kiss -Dementor's last and worst weapon; clamps its jaws upon the mouth of the victim, sucking out his/her soul; no chance of recovery
Devil's Snare -A long creeper plant that wraps the victim; likes the dark and damp Diagon Alley -A street filled with popular stores for wizards and witches to get supplies: wands (Ollivanders), pets (Eeylops Owl Emporium), robes (Madame Malkin's Robes for All Occasions), money (Gringotts) etc.; accessed through tapping a specific brick (3 up, 2 across) of the courtyard behind Leaky Cauldron with a wand
Draught of Living Death -A very strong sleeping potion; made from a powdered root of asphdel and an infusion of wormwood
Durmstrang -A wizarding school; participated in the Triwizard Tounament; puts a lot of emphasis on Dark Arts; presently under Karkaroff
Gillyweed -A kind of weed to be eaten; allows one to breathe underwater
Grim -Giant, spectral dog that haunts churchyards; omen of death
Gringotts -Wizards' bank; run by Goblins and rumoured to contain dragons guarding high-security vaults; snowy-white building made of marble with bronze doors; hides vaults hundreds of miles under London; protected by spells and enchantments
Hippogriff -Creatures with the bodies, hind legs and tails of horses and front legs, wings and heads of eagles; proud and easily offended
Hogwarts Express -A train that Hogwart Students take to get to Hogwarts at the start of school; boarded at Platform Nine and Three Quarters
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry -Possibly and prabably the best school of magic in the world; currently under Albus Dumbledore ; its houses were named after its founders (see Hogwarts); students spend 7 years in it
Howler -A red envelope which blasts the sender's message into the air once it is opened; bursts into flames when done; explodes if not opened immediately
Invisibility Cloak -A shiny, silvery-grey cloth; feels like water woven into material; causes anyone or anything under it to become invisible
Knight Bus -An emergency transport for stranded witches/wizards; flagged down by waving their wand
Mudblood -A foul word to describe a witch or wizard of Muggle parentage; opposite of pureblood
Muggle -Basically, us (non-magic people)
Mandrake -a.k.a Mandragora; a powerful restorative used to return people who have been transfigured or cursed back to their original state; a plant that looks and acts like a person except leaves grow right out of its head
Maraunder's Map -Done by Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs, a.k.a Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black and James Potter, 1 werewolf and 3 Animagus (see above) of rat, dog and stag; an piece of parchment with nothing written on it (for truth, see Spells under I solemnly swear that I am up to no good)
Mirror of Erised -has a riddle inscribed around its top: Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi; to know what the mirror does and what the riddle means, read it backwards, spaced correctly. (Answer: I show not your face but your heart's desire)

Patronus - positive force that projects the very things that Dementors feed upon, but being unable to feel despair, cannot be hurt by a Dementor
Philosopher's Stone- A.k.a Sorceress's Stone; legendary substance that can transform any metal into gold and produce the Elixer of Life, which makes the drinker immortal
Portkey -An enchanted object, probably unconspicious so that Muggles do not fiddle with it, that transports one or more people to a fixed place
Platform Nine and Three Quarters -A hidden platform found at King's Cross Station; invisible to the Muggle eye, wizards and witches have to walk through a solid barrier that divides Platform Nine and Ten; Hogwart students use it to board the Hogwart's Express
Remembrall -A glass ball; if it glows scarlet when held tight, means you forgot something
Sorting Hat -A patched, frayed and extremely dirty wizard's hat; sorts students to their appropriate houses after singing a song that is different every year (see Hogwarts)
Splinch -A term used to describe someone who left half his body behind while Apparating
Squib -Someone who was born into a wizarding family but has no magic powers
Time-Turner -A tiny, sparkling hour-glass; turns back time: 1 turn=1 hour
Wizard Currency -29 bronze knuts to a Sickle, 17 silver Sickles to a gold Galleon
Wolfsbone Potion -For werewolves; makes them harmless on a full moon (when they transform)
