Quidditch is a wizards' sport played with 4 balls and 7 players on each side. The players (who play on broomsticks) are: 3 Chasers, 1 Keeper, 2 Beaters and 1 Seeker. The balls are: 1 Quaffle, 2 Bludgers and 1 Golden Snitch.
The Chasers throw the Quaffle, a bright red ball size of a football, to each other and try to get it through one of the opponents' 3 50-foot hoops, which are guarded by the Keeper. Ten points to the team that scores one goal. The Bludgers, jet black and slightly smaller than the Quaffle, are enchanted balls that try to knock out as many players as possible, which is the Beaters' job to prevent.
The last and most important ball is the Golden Snitch, a bright gold walnut-sized ball with fluttering silver wings. It is hard to catch as it is so fast and small, but a game of Quidditch only ends when the Snitch gets caught, which is the Seeker's job. As catching the Snitch earns the Seeker's team 150 points, that team nearly always wins.
Gryffindor's Quidditch team consists of Oliver Wood (Captain and Keeper), Alicia Spinnet, Angelina Johnson, Katie Bell (Chasers), Fred and George Weasley (Beaters) and last but not least, Harry Potter (Seeker). |
