Natzweiler was located in France near Red Granite quarries.

Escape from the camp was virtually impossible.

Natzweiler was the only France-situated Nazi concentration camp.

Natzweiler had a very small gas chamber which could hold only 20 people at a time.

Bodies from Natzwiler were used by Strasbourg University medical students.

Natzweiler was built by 500 German prisoners.

Inmates of the camp numbered 5,000 - 8,000, with over 14,000 working in outside labor companies.

The majority of NN prisoners were housed in the camp. NN prisoners had been members of resistance movements and began to arrive in the camp in 1943.

Most deaths were caused by labor conditions in the granite pits or by medical experiements. (
See Medical Experiments)

Natzweiler was built for 4,000 prisoners, but an influx of prisoners in 1944 raised the population to 7,000.

Evacuation from the camp began in the autumn of 1944, with 2,000 prisoners sent to Dachau.

Evacuation from the camp was completed in September 1944 before the French liberated the camp in November.
