HISTORY:
Emery grew up in Felcia. A small village in Falagand. Though they hold the same beliefs as the other towns of Falagand, they are still a very tribal community and hold their own unique beliefs. One of those beliefs is a person receives a guardian upon reaching adulthood, and receive a semblance of control of that guardian's properties. Females reach adulthood with their first menstration, males with their first emission. Adults receive tattoos of their guardian and of the property they control. In the same ceremony they receive their adult last name.

Emery was well into his thirteenth year. Other boys, smaller and younger than he, had become men and received their names and guardians. He found himself constantly fighting because men of fewer years than he began ordering the boy about. Of course they now had weapons while he had none, and he found himself losing battles far more often than he won. To make matters worse, he was punished while they were not, no matter the outcome. A boy had no right to challenge a man.

One night, as Emery wandered through his village, he saw smoke rising in the distance. Acting with his usual impulsiveness, he went to investigate. He found a still smoldering ash pile dangerously close to the village. Emery kicked dirt onto the ashes to assure they were out, but instead saw embers come to life. He kicked more dirt on the fire and small flames began to lick the air. He tossed handful after handful of dirt onto the flames and the entire ash pile ignited. Finally, he decided where earth wouldn't work water would. Emery dropped his pants intent on dowsing the fire with urine. But as his pants hit the ground a woman emerged from the flames before him. Her hair was fire, and her eyes were coals, no clothing touched her body. She smiled lovingly as she stepped to him. "You have returned life to me." She said running her hand along his face, "Now I give you this." Her hand closed on his manhood, fire burst from her fingers and she shot into the night sky. Emery awoke in a mess.

Emery ran to the village elders, waking them and telling of his dream. The following night he received his tattoos and the name Fireborne. For months to follow he showed those that were men before him how a true man handles his weapons.

But the responsibilities of adulthood soon came to Emery. At fourteen his future was now. His mother wanted him to farm, his father wanted him to become a peacekeeper and eventually join the council. Each had their vision of his perfect partner already picked. But elder Morrain, the dreamseer, said his path lay elsewhere. That he must command flame or risk burning out himself. That day Emery decided he would be a dragonrider. The next day he headed for Falagand warren. But before he could leave elder Morraine pulled him aside. "You have been touched by Phoenix." She said, "You share her destiny. One day you will be consumed by your own fires. But do not fret, for you shall be reborn stronger and wiser."

Two years later he joined with Tahuti. And in the six years since they have had numerous adventures, usually caused by Emery's impulsiveness. But in the back of his mind lurks Morraine's warning. Emery is ever fearful that somehow, someday he will be engulfed by Tahuti's flame. No dreamseer has ever been wrong. Emery hopes Morraine will be the first.
