RETHYMNO
GENERAL INFORMATION
It's one of the four cities of Crete, the largest island of Greece, and the capital of the prefecture of Rethymno. It is built on a cape and lies at the north side of the island, along the seashore. Its habitants are about 25000.
Rethymno is a contemporary town full of contrasts. It combines modern with traditional, the old town and the old buildings with the new town and the modern buildings. It also combines sea with mountain. It is famous for its natural beauty, the picturesque streets in the old town and its endless beaches.
The climate in Rethymno (all seasons) is mild.
You may find hotels, rent rooms, a youth hostel or camping to stay. There are a lot of souvenirs to buy, such as embroideries,traditional woven cloths, baskets, ceramic art, wooden made objects and various gifts that will no let you forget the days you will spend in Rethymno. You may also buy traditional musical instruments and Byzantine icons, all hand made.
You should not leave Rethymno without having taste cretan meals and the famous raki. You should also taste or buy honey, wine and dairy products (various kinds of cheese and excellent yogurt).
