For too many if not most people, comics resemble a brief moment of entertainment and at the very most nothing more than a casual hobby. But there are those who eat, breath and sleep comics. And not because the whole idea is being perceived as a form of escapism, but rather because the very concept of the pen giving birth to an inner mind's visions is being regarded as a highly ranking true form of art. Unfortunately I have great regret in having to admit that I am not one of this group since I've never read nearly enough comics in my time, but none the less this art form demands my respect which I give willingly.

The pencil artist is as important as the actual writer, but that doesn't mean it's all about making the pictures look pretty, it's about finding the right combination that gives birth to a natural chemistry... as with all other things.

Alex Ross:

"Superheroes are a mixture of every form of fiction myth, science-fiction, mystery and magic all in one giant pot. The best characters embody virtues we may try to find in ourselves."

If you were expecting me going into full detail on biographical facts, explaining Alex Ross's origins, having been born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Lubbock, Texas...

...there is probably little chance of that happening since I would not want to post any incorrect information. And since there is a nice little biographical 'Alex Files' section available at the comic artist's official website, I would not want to copyright any material included in the article either. Then again, if you are a fan of either comics or Alex Ross's work, chances are that you might already know quite an extensive bit of the man himself, and that in turn leaves no need for myself to rant and rave about his classical contribution towards 'Kingdom Come'! But since I said it in any event, take your pic... no really, have a look at the wallpaper and the 'photorealistic' skills Ross adds to his masterpieces.

That brings me to what I really want to say in why I have such a great respect towards Ross's art, he brings forth and always includes realism and believability into all of his pictures. They all look real, feel real, seem real... and are very, very, very pretty to look at!
