Saturday, 15 July 2006On my way back from Heidelberg to Munich, I stopped by Stuttgart, just to take a very brief look at this interesting city of many famous investments. Getting out of the train station, I was faced by the boulevard-like Königstr., which extended a long way into the city. The boulevard was very good for people-watching and shop-watching, if little of anything else. Slightly to the left was a large piece of green land, filled also with fountains, lakes, people reading lazily in the afternoon sun, and several monumental buildings, including the Sttats-Theater, the Landtag, the Art Museum, and the Neues Schloss near the Schlossplatz. Veering right of the K&omul;nigstr. again, and continuing south, I eventually hit the Rotebühlplatz (Stadtmitte), which, I am sorry to say, did not appear special or unique to me. Finally, I came to a park and hiked up the gentle Karlshöhe hill. From there, there was a modestly commanding view of the eastern half of Stuttgart. I realised that the city was built on hilly grounds, and just above the hill, two television towers could be seen. Too late to see the Mercedes-Benz-Museum or the Porsche-Museum (and it was a pity), I caught the 17:30 train back to Munich. |
