A zone portal opens up, and out pops… The Terminator! …Actually, it’s "Cyber-Sonic", a cybernetic version of Sonic from another zone.

Cyber Sonic explains that his Robotnik turned the Freedom Fighters into cyborgs (how, and why?). Using their new powers, the Freedom Fighters had fought back, but Robotnik had roboticized himself, becoming… Robo-Robotnik!!! Robo-Robotnik had defeated the Freedom Fighters, and Cyber Sonic had fled onto the cosmic interstate in search of new allies…

Hearing this, Sonic Prime decides to recruit every version of himself he can find, to combat Robo-Robotnik.

Among the recruits:

Bat-Sonic, Mummy Sonic, Cowhog Sonic, Mobster Sonic, Sonic the Musketeer, Sonic the Mousketeer, Sergeant Sonic, Sonic the Painter, Karate Sonic, Skier Sonic, Sailor Sonic, Sonic Holmes, Dr. Sonic, Sonic the Wizard, Sonic Bonaparte, Sonic the Boxer, Sonic the Chef, Sonic the musician, Sonic the Barbarian, Sonic Hood, Sonic the Farmer, Wolverine (AKA "Sonic"), Sonic the Deep-Sea Diver, Sonic the Admiral, Sonic the Magician, Sonic the Cave-hog, Sonic the Samurai, Sonic the Hulk, Sonic the Pirate, Sonic the Jester, Sonic the Biker, Sonic the Astronaut, Tennis Sonic, Sonic the Weight-Lifter, Surfer Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog Torch, Sonic the Thing, Giant Sonic, Archie Sonic, Jughead Sonic, Reggie Sonic, Santa Sonic, Quarterback Sonic, Cheerleader Sonic, Downunda Sonic, Sonic the Cross-dresser, Sonic the Policehog, and Sonic the Devil.

Sonic holds a pep-rally, but Robo-Robotnik’s Shadow Swatbots crash their party.

Deciding to protect his turf, Robotnik sends his own Swatbots, and they destroy the intruders.

Robotnik and the Sonics now team up to challenge Robo-Robotnik. Robotnik sends the Sonics to a region of the Cosmic Interstate known as "the Neutral Zone" to acquire a weapon know as the Giant’s Hand; but Robo-Robotnik recruits Evil Sonic to intercept them…

Sonic and the Sonics have just acquired the Giant’s Hand, when Evil Sonic and the Shadow Swatbots arrive and steal it from them. While the Sonics battle Evil and the Swatbots, Robo-Robotnik teleports the Giant’s Hand to his lair, where it transforms into the giant robot, "Giant Borg".

Back on Mobius Prime (in some techno-center… Robotnik’s HQ?), the Sonics are disheartened and blame each other. But Sally gives them a good talking to, and they head out to battle Giant Borg.

At first, the battle robot seems to have the upper hand, but then the Sonics all go into spin mode, and saw the robot into pieces. Lots of little puzzle pieces… which Robotnik wants to collect. Sonic puts a stop to that, telling the Sonics to each take a pieces home with them. Cyber-Sonic, however, takes only Robo-Robotnik’s head.

Little does anyone suspect, we haven’t seen the last of Robo-Robotnik, or Giant Borg…

Scott advertises the Princess Sally Mini-Series. Also, letters from Alexandra Griffen, Mike Ready, Erica Torre, Louis Alvarez, and Laura Smith.

Final Thoughts:

A classic issue—the intro of Robo-Robotnik (these days known by the aliases "Robotnik Mach II" and "Eggman"), and Giant Borg. It was another of the early serious issues (despite the "kiddy" special features, such as cutout Swatbots and coloring pages), and, it just so happens to be the first issue reviewed by Dan Drazen.
