Issue 18

Editor-in-Chief: Richard Goldwater; Managing Editor: Victor Gorelick; Editor: Scott Fulop.

Cover

Penciled by Dave Manak, inked by Jon D’Agostino.

Tails hogs the action, Rotor takes the cake, and Sonic and Sally walk down the Aisle, all under a neon-yellow sky… What?!

"Wedding Bell Blues!"

Written by Mike Kanterovich and Ken Penders, penciled by Dave Manak, inked by Harvey Mercadoocasio, lettered by Bill Yoshida, colored by Barry Grossman.

Sonic and Sally are getting married! Finally! I thought it would never happen! I guess, after issue 16, they got to thinking…

When Robotnik hears of this, he decides to put a stop to it—no living happily ever after on his watch!

An army of Badniks attack the barn where the ceremony is being held, just as the happy couple are about to say their "I do's". Time for some major Freedom Fighting action!

When the smoke clears, the Badniks are trashed (never to be seen again, except for Crabmeat and the ones that ended up at that dump just after Mecha Madness…). As for the wedding… well it turns out it was only a play.

(Cheaters! At this rate, they’ll never get married!)

…One continuity note: in one scene of this, Sally wears her vest—which she doesn’t receive until the In Your Face Special.

Sonic Art

The heroes of Sonic 3, by Aaron Melendez, Sonic and Tails by Michael Kennedy, Sonic and Knuckles by Chad Meyer, Sonic, Sally, and Tails by Marcus Nunez, and, my Fan Art Award goes to Scott Underwood for his simple yet flawless Sonic and Tails.

"Princess Sally’s Crusade" Part 2: "In the Still of the Night"

Written by Mike Kanterovich and Ken Penders, penciled by Art Mawhinney, inked and lettered by Jon D’Agostino.

Rotor can’t figure out what the orb is, but Sally has more pressing concerns. Rosie shows up (her first appearance in the comic) and tells her that Julayla’s condition has taken a turn for the worse.

…Julayla being Sally’s mentor, who we also meet for the first time this issue.

Sally rushes to Julayla’s side, but it is Julayla who does the comforting. They reminisce about the good old days, and Julayla gives Sally a test… Sally passes the test, earning the Acorn family’s Ceremonial Acorn.

Julayla says farewell, and passes away.

Later, Sonic finds Sally outside, mourning, and together, they watch the sun rise.

Sonic-Grams

Letters by Matt Wallace, Jerry Simmons, and Matthew Estenson. Don Lewis praises Sally’s color change, and points out that Archie’s Bunnie is a bit more mechanical than SatAM’s. And finally, a long and well written letter from Sanasi Alessandro of Germany, who liked the work of Scot Shaw! much better than Dave Manak’s.

Final Thoughts:

What can I say? Great issue—even if Sonic and Sally never did get married.
