Sonic and Tails attempt to save Sally from a giant mechanical ape by telling bad jokes…

"Gorilla Warfare" or "The Apes of Wrath"

Simian Script by Mike Kanterovich and Ken Penders, primate penciling by Dave Manak, Iron Age inking by Harvey Mercadoocasio, lemur lettering by Mindy Eisman, and chimpanzee coloring by Barry Grossman.

All is quiet in Knothole. Too quiet. What’s ‘Butnik up to these days?!

Why, he’s on Skoal Island, recruiting an old creation of his—the giant mechanical ape, "King Gong!"

However, when, many pages later, King Gong gets a look at the Freedom Fighters, he falls in love with Sally, and takes her on a date at the top of one of Robotnik’s skyscrapers, the Trans-Mobius Trade Center.

No one makes the moves on Sonic’s (unofficial) girlfriend though—and since Gong’s a robot, Sonic shows no mercy.

A fun little story… yes, really.

"Princess Sally’s Crusade" Part 1: "First Star I See Tonight!"

Written by Mike Kanterovich and Ken Penders, pencilled by Art Mawhinney, inked by Jon D’Agostino.

Sally reminisces about the good old days, back before Robotnik took over. But what’s this? She’s with Sonic! How can that be? According to Sonic 0, they met just afterwards!

That’s right, boys and girls, the old history is out, and the synchronization with SatAM has begun!

Sally’s musings are interrupted by a meteor impacting nearby. Investigating the crater, she finds a strange silvery orb. What could this mean? To be continued! (First time we’ve heard those words in the comic!)

Sonic Art

Sonic and Knux trashing some Swatbots, by Ansdell Kaneole, Knuckles with some nice shading, by Jorden Cook, and Larry Lynx and the Freedom Fighters, by Kalvin Taylor. There are some flaws in that last one, but I really like the style…

Sonic-Grams

Letters from Jessica Dixon, Nathan Calkins, Harrison Gibbons, Lauren Cipollo, and Peter Femenella. Also, ads for Sonic 18 and the Sonic in Your Face special.

Final Thoughts:

This is it! The SatAM era of Archie Sonic begins here! Gotta love it.
