"In this issue… ‘Knuckles’ from Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3"

Cover

By Manak & D’Agostino

Sonic breaks the records on the Robotropolis Motor Speedway, with the assistance of his "pit crew", Sally.

"This Island Hedgehog"

Written by Mike Kanterovich and Ken Penders, penciled by Dave Manak, inked by Jon D’Agostino, colored by Barry Grossman, lettered by Bill Yoshida, and dedicated to Jack "King" Kirby.

Sonic and Tails discover the Floating Island, are shot down, fight some bots, and are captured by Knuckles. Rad Red is quite the dim-bulb at this point, but he has enough compassion to give Sonic and Tails ten minutes to get off the island, before he kills them. (I’m really not kidding! Knux threatened to kill our heroes!)

Of course, Sonic and Tails ignore the threat and head over to a clearing where Knuckles normally stores the Chaos Emerald out in the open, lying on a rock. (Told ya he was a dim-bulb!) Unfortunately, someone has somehow stolen the highly protected glowing green gemstone.

How Sonic & Tails knew where to look is not explained.

Knuckles realizes ‘Butnik’s a jerk, and all three of them head over to Robotnik’s ship, dismantle some Swat bots, and retrieve the emerald.

…Obviously, this story is quite inconsistent with all future Knuckles stories. The only explanation I have of what the Emerald was doing out in the open is, maybe it was the fake emerald seen in the Sonic & Knuckles special.

"Space in Yo’ Face!"

Written by Angelo DeCesare, penciled by Art Mawhinney, inked by Jon D’Agostino.

Robotnik is constructing an orbiting space weapon, Robo-Storm, which will have the power to roboticize the entire planet.

The Freedom Fighters sneak on board, and blast off without Robotnik. But Robotnik and Snively board another ship, and chase them to one of Mobius’s one hundred moons, "Muckery"—a moon covered in brown "muck".

Sonic uses Robo’s vanity against him, and manages to trap ‘Butnik in the muck long enough for the team to make another escape, this time a successful one.

Sonic Grams

The Adventures of Scott and Paul Episode Two: We Goofed!

Scott and Paul fight over whose fault it was that there weren’t any credits to issue 11’s "Beat the Clock", while Knuckles officiates.

Getting into the letters, we have letters from "your number one Tails fan," Jeremy Tucker, and "your biggest fan," Brent Randel.

Final Thoughts

Yet another historic issue! …Even if I said the same thing about the previous two issues…
