Have a Heart part 2 by Tommy Boy
11:30pm EST Tuesday, December 21 (Ameila Larson has until 11:30am, Thursday, December 23! 36 hrs starting now!)
8:30 Pacific ?
The Crazy Cats were starting their twenty minute set at the Fillmore. They were the opening act for the internationally acclaimed Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers. In the green room, the Cavaliers were relaxing, dressing and tuning for their turn on stage. They were set to go on at 9:30.
They had traveled across the United States since Thanksgiving, promoting their latest album, Experimentation in D Minor. A bit different in style but had been well received by the buying public.
Relaxing in the far corner of the room, were Buckaroo, Peggy, Rawhide, Pinky, Reno and Pecos. Pinky had brought up into conversation one of his many unknown facts that was being pondered to be true or not by the audience.
A frantic knock came to the back door and Panther opened it. Perfect Tommy stepped in quickly closing the door firmly shut behind him. "Man! Those fans just don't know when to quit."
"And if they did you would pout that they weren't tearing your clothes off," Tommy Boy came up behind him. "Looks like you need to change clothes my man. I don't think that shirt was meant to have air conditioning in the back."
"Where?? Where??" He tries bending his head this way and that, but couldn't see the tear.
Tommy Boy brought her hand up and touched his back with a piece of ice from her drink.
Perfect Tommy jumped and yelped in surprise. "What the ...." he turned to see Tommy Boy holding an ice cube. "Very funny."
The rest of the crowd laughed. Tommy Boy took a bow for besting the irrepressible Perfect Tommy. Perfect Tommy stalked off to the corner where his trunk was and started looking for an outfit to wear for the show.
While laughing, Rawhide's go-phone started a tune of the Entertainer chiming. He Looked around to find some place to hear the transmission clearly. Rawhide goes out the second door that leads through the back of the auditorium. The noise was somewhat muffled, enough to hear his go-phone.
"Rawhide." he announces as he turns on the reception.
On the tiny screen Mrs. Johnson smiles. "Hey there handsome."
"Be careful, TB might hear you."
"And she would agree. I have a transmission to patch into you from New Jersey." With a click, the tired face of Sydney Zibel a.k.a. New Jersey came in to view.
"New Jersey."
"Rawhide. I need to ask a BIG favor of you guys."
"What's up?"
New Jersey filled him in about the little girl and her need of heart. He told him the good news that a matching heart had been found in San Francisco then informed him of the complications in getting said heart back to the east coast. "Think you guys can pull a Christmas miracle?"
Rawhide knew that once he told his partner, Buckaroo about the situation, he would give it a green light. Kids in medical trouble were their specialty. Looking at his watch he read 8:45 pacific. They had the bus and the Hummer with them. If they could make it to Carson City, they could fly out of there with the heart.
"Don't worry New Jersey, just keep that girl stable. We'll get that heart to you."
New Jersey smiled."I'll do that."
Rawhide closed off the connection and leaned against the wall for a moment. Before he could gather his thoughts, his go phone chimed again. Mrs. Johnson came in view."I already have a plane secured in Carson City, we have a BBI that runs a rental service there. The weather hasn't hit there ... yet." she added.
"Spying again?" he teased but grateful that Mrs. J. was on top of things already.
"Who?? Me?" She tied to look innocent. "I'll give Big Norse the news and she can get her computers up and running. The weather is due to get worse in the next few hours."
"Thanks for the insight Mrs. J. I'll call you with additional ideas."
"Over and out."
Rawhide returned to the green room where everyone was getting in a good mood. Perfect Tommy had dressed and was tuning up his guitar. Rawhide made his way to the middle of the room and gave one his home grown whistles that makes everyone stop and listen.
"Just got a call from New Jersey. He needs our help.; A little girl is in need of a heart and her match is here in San Francisco."
"But New Jersey is on the East Coast." Someone pointed out the obvious.
"That's right. He's asked us to get the heart back to the east coast in .. 35 and half hours. My question to you. Can we do it?"
Buckaroo stands and answers for all "Of course we can." He looks around the room and starts thinking. "We go on half an hour and do the two hours set. Have Big Norse and Hotrod take the Hummer to General and pick up the heart. They should be back and secure in the bus by the time we are done with the encore. We leave all equipment here. We can pick it up once we get back." Buckaroo tells the crowd.
With the plan formulated, Rawhide calls to Big Norse who is in the bus with Hotrod the bus driver and informs them of their mission.
With directions printed out, Big Norse and Hotrod head out to San Francisco General.
