About Alaska Anne--

Alaska Anne claims to have come from a long line of "scrappers." Her grandfather was a general under General Lee during the American Civil War; her father rode shotgun for the Wells Fargo stages; her grandmother, mother, and two aunts held off an Indian raid on the Ranch Dawn when the men were away at war; her uncle rode with the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War. And the tradition continued with herself and her own children. She started off as a WASP in London during WWII (until she delivered a stunning blow to the nose of a British officer and was booted off the island), then, with her daughter, put her medical training to work in the Philippines as a WAC. After the islands fell to Japanese hands, both mother and daughter were taken as POWs. Like her mother, Anne's daughter did not shy from doubling up her fist and defending herself and others. A fact that lead to her execution after she struck a guard who was attempting to rape another prisoner. Alaska Anne was a POW for three years before Allied Forces freed her.  Both her husband and her eldest son also died in WWII battles. Her second son died in the Korean War.

Alaska Anne first met Buckaroo when he was no more than a babe in his mother's arms. She was just leaving Texas as the Banzai family was arriving, and, despite her at-time married status, was quite taken by the Banzais' friend Professor Toichi Hikita (though he seemed little aware of it). When Anne returned from war, her family dwindled down to one remaining child, her young son Jordy Ankins, she decided to escape the world to the frontier of Alaska. She signed the Ranch Dawn over to friend Hikita so that he could have wide open spaces to raise the now orphaned Buckaroo.

Alaska Anne and Jordy bought 4600 sq. acres of land in Alaska that cover a wide variety of terrains, from dense woods to grass meadows to mountains to a glacier. For a time, they lived happily enough, Anne working as the country doctor.

But, when the Vietnam War came, Jordy, true to his blood line, went off to war where, on his second term of service, was taken by the enemy and executed.

Alaska Anne, unable to bare the sudden emptiness of her life, offered all she had up to the newly formed Banzai Institute so that she could simply fade away into nonexistence. At Hikita's prompting, Buckaroo offer her another option: let them use her alaska land as training ground for his Blue Blazes. With a tired sigh, she agreed, and proceeded to build the Raven Lodge and several isolated half cabins scattered across her property.

Alaska Anne found a new reason for living in the new and young faces of the Blue Blazes and Hong Kong Cavaliers. She now had a new family, and this one she was not going to lose to any enemy. She became the adopted Grandmum of the BBs who came to her the Raven Lodge for training. Well known for being as likely to make chicken soup when her wards were ailing as tanning their hides if they got out of line. She pays particular attention to her "orphans and no goods."

And her friendship with Hikita grew stronger. As the elders of the Banzai Institute, they found in each other commonalities that they couldn't find in the younger members.

Her determination and protectiveness of her wards always came as a shock to the enemies of Banzai and friends. Particularly when one such enemy came face to face with either her huge shot gun or her elephant gun.

On one such occasion, the Hong Kong Cavaliers found themselves cornered by Xan's forces when Alaska Anne and her team of sled dogs came on scene just in time, her shot gun giving enough of a distraction for the HKC to make their move. When all over, Perfect Tommy announced "Who needs insurance when you have AAA!" "AAA?" Reno Nevada repeated. Perfect Tommy put a loving arm around the old woman's shoulders. "Alaska Anne Ankins!"

Only recently, through a DNA experiment to find parents of orphans, a pair of siblings were discovered in a 'Nam War Orphanage that matched Jordy Ankins' DNA, proving him as the father. But the children are too young to have been conceived before his reported death. Thus a mystery: what happened to Alaska Anne's son, Jordy, and where did these children come from? She immeaditly sent for them and they now live with her and help her take care of Raven Lodge.
