About Nicki-- Loves everything, particularly barroom style brawls "'til someone goes and takes it personally." Nicki Knight lives every day as if it were her last. According to her belief, it most likely will be. Owns a cabin (log cabin with loft, no electricity but generator, hand water pump, wood stove, and straw mats) just south of Oregon boarder, a good two mile hike from any road. Only alcohol she has is Butterscotch rum with French Vanilla icecream.
At a very young age, Nicki showed an unusual talent: she could bend flame. She became fascinated with fire, even a little obsessed. By the time she was 9yrs old, her parents became exceedingly weary of their youngest child. Her extremely Puritan mother decided the child had been touched by evil, and proceeded to do everything she could think of to erase the evil in her. Her father simply ignore the issue. Nicki's one and only friend, her brother Nathen, supported and protected her, sharing with her a secret of his own... he, too, could bend flame.
Tragedy struck when Nicki was 13yrs, her brother 14yrs. Though no one knows what happened, the assumption was that, while playing with fire, Nicki lost control, resulting in their home and two hundred ackers of Canada forest being burned to the ground. Nathen was severely burned and Nicki's hands were burned when she pulled her brother to safety. The badly scarred Nathen was hospitalized and has never acknowledged the existence of anything since, not even speaking. Nicki's parents institutionalized her as a pyro and, blaming her "evil soul" for the condition of their son, never returned or even spoke of her again. She either can't remember or simply says she can not remember what happened.
After 3yrs of physical and emotion abuse, Nicki escaped the institute and made her way to the safety of Northern California redwoods where she managed to guild a new identity for herself. Taking a GED test, then entered college at Humboldt St. University in Arcata, California. When hunters from the institute began to close in, she retreated into the woods. With degree in hand, she joined the Forestry and trained to fight what she referred to as her "greatest enemy and most beloved: fire." In both fields, she found herself often butting heads with law breakers: drug runners and pyros just a start.
She dedicated herself to understanding, fighting, and controlling the flame. Though she kept her ability to bend the flame a secret, over the years rumors had been passed around firefighter houses about a girl who could walk through fire, finding a path through even the thickest and hottest of flames. But, when taking a civilian group of firefighters up for a training jump, an unexpected forest fire diverted them from training to a real mission. When jumping, an unexpected wind blew the fire over their L.Z. Revealing her ability, Nicki summed up every ounce of strength and cleared a safe zone. But the effort knocked her out. Two trainees carried her to safety.
Those two men were Dr. Buckaroo Banzai and his #2 man Rawhide. (the civilian trainees turned out to be Blue Blazes)
