The Real Person Behind The Web Site

So, you have decided to read on! I am truly glad you are still with me here.
The second part of my story will be shorter, it is to introduce you to a condition that many parents find their children have. It is ADHD *attention deficit hyperactivity disorder* I have 2 of my 4 children, both my boys with this condition. As the boys were growing, I noticed that they got into more trouble in school than most other children, more detentions, more complaints from the teachers that the boys seemed to be active, as if "driven by a motor". They were always up and down, had to constantly be moving, and often that led to them touching other students, and of course being boys, the touching was to push, shove, hit, in a more forceful than friendly manner. Both the boys were diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6 or 7. Both boys are now on the medication called Concerta . Yes, there are horror stories out there about these medications, as with so many other medications out there on the market today, but truly if you have a child that is ADHD especially the H part *hyperactivity* there are very few options that leave you with much sanity. There are a few good web sites out there that are helpful in the information on ADHD, which is the main reason I have made page 2 about this condition. I want you to have a place where you can go to find out more information on the ADHD condition if you suspect your child has this.
Here are a few of the "symptoms" of ADHD from my own experience with my boys:

Attention:
1) Has a hard time paying attention or daydreams.
2) Does not seem to listen.
3) Is easily distracted from play or work.
4) Does not care about details or makes careless mistakes.
5) Forgets things.
6) Seems to be "mentally" lazy as he/she doesn't want to do things requiring "mental" effort.

Hyperactivity:
1) In constant motion as if "driven by a motor".
2) Doesn't sit still.
3) Talks too much.
4) Constantly squirming, fidgeting, fingers, hands or feet going.
5) Running, jumping, climbing even when told it is not allowed.
6) Does not play quietly, must make some sort of noise.

Impulsivity:
1) Often acts or speaks without thinking first.
2) Has trouble sharing or taking turns.
3) Is not patient, has trouble "waiting" for things.
4) Talks out of turn, without permission, before asked to.
5) Interrupts others, teachers, parents, siblings, friends, etc.

March 2006 update:
My oldest son who is 16, is no longer on medication, as he has learned to control his impulsiveness, and attention as he has grown. He has learned to create new outlets for his energy, and will be starting his first job soon. His goals for his future include going to college and becoming an engineer.

Love,
CC Dreamer
