The Mentalist

characters

The mentalist is one of the 4 classes you can choose from when creating a new character. Unlike the other classes, the mentalist has constant ley that isn't dependant on any other source.

The constant ley thing is a boon and a hinderance. While you never have to worry about having no ley, and therefore no power, you can never have full ley. So your power will always come back, your power will not regenerate as fast as a magician or an arcanist with a pool or a cleric in his shrine.

The mentalist is the only class that can cast offensive mind spells (other than the cleric's bleed series of spells). Mind spells don't require much aim, you need only point in the enemy's direction and cast. There is also range limits on all mind spells, but they can go through walls and doors, so it is possible to get a kill on a cleric or magician who puts up walls to save their lives. There is the chance that mind spells will be resisted, resulting in no damage at all. The spell target resist increases a player's chances of resisting mind spells.

The most useful spell a mentalist will get is Leaping II (level 3 spell). Leaping II lets you jump much higher than normal, thereby allowing you to escape possible deaths. Be warned though that when you jump, you are still liable to get hit by one last bolt. Leap II is a spell you'll be using for the entire time you play, so it is important that you learn when and where to use it. Gauge distances carefully, because a faulty jump can lead to your death.

The ment's projectile spells are light based, therefore resist light (level 1 mentalist spell, level 4 arcanist and magician spell) will lessen damage caused by light spells such as shock bolt II (level 9 spell) and lightning V (level 25 spell). Lightning spells have the longest range of all the bolt-like spells. L4 (lightning 4, a level 20 spell) and L5 (lightning V) have longer ranges than Electrocute (level 18 spell).

The mentalist's higher level mind spells can be deadly. Shock 4 (level 14 spell) is an especially deadly spell. Most mind ments research the movement list to get Fly spells. The most sought after flying spell is Fly III (level 11 spell). People using Fly III can move faster than most people running, which makes running away that much harder.
