| Reunion in Death by J. D. Robb From Chris McDonough Guide Rating - **** The Bottom Line According to NY Lt. Eve Dallas, "... she wanted to psych me out. Shake my confidence. It's personal." She is Julianna Dunne, released after nine years in prison on convictions of murder - convictions sustained by Eve. Now, Julianna murders on Eve's turf. She targets Eve's husband, Roarke, who gets himself appointed to Eve's investigative team. Already on the team are aide Delia Peabody and computer whiz Ian McNab. Pros: Fast pace; great dialogue. Cons: The plot is old, but the characters compensate. Description J. D. Robb is a pen name of Nora Roberts. Publisher: The Berkley Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Putnam Inc. Pages: 371 Format: Softcover ISBN: 0-425-18397-1 Guide Review - Reunion in Death by J. D. Robb Because it's personal, Eve must trust her intuition to find and stop Julianna before she kills again and, ultimately, before she kills Roarke. This is the fourteenth book in the futuristic "Death" series. The strength of this series is strong characterizations, and this novel is no exception. The personal aspect of the case brings Eve into traumatic confrontation with her brutal childhood. Roarke witnesses this and struggles with the dual instincts of support of the victim and rage against the perpetrator. Eve's trauma also reminds Rourke of his own. Under this pressure, Eve and Roarke both reveal intimate aspects of their characters. Eve's aide, Peabody, also presents a revelation - her parents, who are New Agers. Not to be out-done, Dr. Mira introduces her husband, an endearing, charming man whose brain might not be as fuzzy as he pretends. Fans of this series will not be disappointed in this book. 2004 About, Inc. All rights reserved. A PRIMEDIA Company. |
