Ultra Delta An ultra delta is very close to a half moon at 170* or more just under 180* some offspring of ultra deltas will likely beco
Delta Delta tails have a nice flowing spread that fans out in a rounded triangle shape.
Halfmoon A halfmoon has a spread of 180* in the shape of a half circle halfmoons don't always produce more halfmoons but many will come close.
Crowntail Crowntails are characterized by the fins rays extending farther than the rest of the fin. There are many types of crowntails depending on the number and shape of the rays.
Double Tail Instead of one solid tail,it is split in half. Some are even while others are not. Most desireable is the complete split and large rounded, even lobes.

Short Tail At first all bettas had short tails. Wild bettas needed to be fast to escape predators. Long fins would have made them slow easy to catch prey. The betta in the photo is called a Plakat. Learn about other spiecies in another section. Short tails can be DT and HM like the one pictured.

Pin Tail Instead of curving downward like all other viel tails do, a pin tail sticks straight out and ends in a sharp piont. The pin tail characteristic can be found in most any tail type, though the one in the pic is a pin tailed viel. Mostly delta I've read. The delta tail will have a pointed tip like the one in the pic but will also have the characteristic triangular shaped edges too.

Comb Tail A comb tail can be found with any tail type like the HM pictured. HM, viel, delta, short, ect. It is where the rays stick out just a little bit giving the tail a comb like edge. Not long enough to be called a crowntail and will not produce any crowntails.

Viel Tail The viel tail is the most common tail shape. This type of betta is what you will find in Pet Shops. Veil tails have the longest type of tail, but is thin and does not fan out like the others. Other tail types are at least close to equal in width when you draw an imaginary line from the base of the tail out to the end. However, in viel tails this is not so. The bottom have curves downward. It was the first new tail mutation.

Round or Fan Tail This Tail is somewhat like a delta tail, however, the outer rays are not as long and do not make the triangle shape. Instead it has a wide spread with a round edge.
