Lesson Presentation

I chose to present my lesson to a class of eight high school freshman at Round Top Carmine High School. My lesson presentation went well. I taught swine breeds. My lesson included a PowerPoint presentation and a quiz after the lesson was presented. I began the class by calling the role and then also counting the number of students who wanted a cafeteria lunch. The teacher then showed me the computerized system that that school uses for the lunch count. After I took the attendance and lunch count I began with my lesson.

I introduced myself to the students along with my agricultural background and began to explain why I chose to present swine breeds. I started with a few questions to get the students attention along with the introduce the topic that I was about to teach. The classroom management was very good. There were no interruptions while I taught and the students all seemed very well behaved.  They did ask questions during the discussion and I encouraged that. The reactions of the students to the lesson seemed good, they all told me at least one thing that they had learned and each one of them learned something differently. Something I could have done differently was not use PowerPoint. I could have easily just lectured without a visual aid. However, I feel that the students learned better with the PowerPoint because they could see exactly what I was talking about with the pictures of the different breeds in the PowerPoint. The quiz grades were all relatively good.

Overall, I feel very well about the lesson I taught. I am very excited to become a teacher and have students in my own class that I can teach. I feel that much of the students attitude depends on the teachers attitude. The students at RTC were eager to learn but more importantly, they respected each other as well as myself. It was a good experience.
