| Only in Past Memories by Sailor Esmeralda Chapter 4 (Two years later) It had been two years since Phoebus and Esmeralda had become friends, and their friendship grew even more as the years went on. Today Helen decided it looked like a nice day for a picnic. She packed a huge lunch and rounded up her kids. �Can we see if Essie can come?� Phoebus asked. �If we see her.� Once everything was in order, they headed out the door to the park. As the troop was walking to the park, Phoebus spotted Esmeralda dancing with Athena. �Essie!� Esmeralda stopped and ran to Phoebus �Mars!� They gave each other a hug and ran over Helen. �Hello Mamon.� �Hello sweetie� Helen picked her up and hugged her. �Bonjour Athena� �Bonjour Helen� Athena walked over to them, but watching every step to make sure there were no soldiers in sight. �Phoebus was wondering if Esmeralda could come with us on our picnic,� said Helen. �Please Athena please?!� pleaded Esmeralda. Athena thought for a moment. �All right but you need to be home before three.� �Okay!� �I�ll send Michelle to find you at the park.� �Ohh� no shell! She�s mean. Send Marla.� �All right I�ll send Marla. Be a good girl, see you soon!� Athena watched them walk off, and got a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. �Something�s not right.� �Be careful, Phoebus!� Helen jumped up and walked were to where Phoebus and Esmeralda were standing. �It�s okay mommy, we�re just watching the fish,� said Phoebus. �Don�t stand so close to the river; you might fall in.� �We won�t fall mommy.� �Well just be careful anyways.� She patted on the head and sat back down with her daughters. �Look Mars! A fwog!� Esmeralda bent over to get a closer look, but bent to far. Splash! �Help!� Esmeralda screamed before she was pulled under the water. Helen was in complete shock and couldn�t move. �Forest, go get dad!� the oldest daughter yelled. Before anyone could really do anything, Phoebus jumped into the water and started swimming towards Esmeralda. Her hand slipped into the water and Phoebus grabbed it before he lost sight of her. Phoebus pulled her up and held her under his arm. General Phoebus Sr. rode up on his horse just in time to see his son put Esmeralda on the bank, only to be swept away himself under the water. The General leaped off his horse and ran to the water. His son�s hand popped up for a second, but it was just enough time for him to grab it. Phoebus Sr. pulled out his son and laid him on the ground. He put his ear down to Phoebus� mouth, but didn�t hear any sound of breathing. The others crowded around them. �Back off people and give me some room!� Phoebus Sr. growled. He looked at his lifeless son and thought for a moment. �If it worked at his birth�� he mumbled to himself. He picked up the limp Phoebus, aimed for a spot on his back and smack! Phoebus Sr. slapped his son�s back so hard that he spat water and started coughing. �Thank you God!� Phoebus Sr. said as he turned his son around and held him tight. Esmeralda, who had been bailing the whole time, ran over to the general and latched on to Phoebus' arm. �Is Mars going to be okay?� she cried through her tears. �Yes Esmeralda, he�ll be fine. Don�t worry.� Phoebus Sr. picked up his son again and carried him home. Helen stayed with Esmeralda until Marla came to pick her up. �Is Mars really going to be okay?� �Yes, Esmeralda. He�ll be just fine.� �I�m sorry for not being careful� Esmeralda started to cry. Helen pulled her close and rocked her back and forth. �Oh Essie. It�s okay dear; it�s not your fault. Nobody thought Phoe� Mars would do something like that. He had a moment of shear courage.� �I am still sorry, though. Maybe I could come by tomorrow� �That would be fine� Helen hugged Esmeralda once more. Then Marla came running up, out breath from running. �I saw your husband carrying Phoebus home! Is everything all right?� Helen told her what had happened and Marla said that they would be by tomorrow to thank him personally. When Helen reached home, her husband had already put Phoebus to bed. She sat down on the end of his bed. �He�s all right dear,� Phoebus Sr. quietly whispered. �He has a nasty bump on his head and is still dizzy, but good other than that.� Helen sighed in relief. �Esmeralda and the gypsies are coming by tomorrow to see him.� �What happened though?� �Esmeralda was leaning to close to the water and fell in� �Hmm� All right. But the next time you guys go to the park; I should like to go, just in case something like this happens again. Do you realize that no one did anything? If I hadn�t come by then�� �Don�t start!
