Callista Frollo

Callista Frollo

I first created her after getting the movie on video. She disappeared for a
while but after reading the book for the second time and renewing my love for
the movie, I brought her back and gave her more depth than I gave her before.
As you guessed, Callista is related to Frollo, she's actually his daughter
(I know, Frollo isn't married. I changed that). She dark brown hair and grey
eyes. As a child, she was desperate to please her father, but when she never
succeeded, she gave up. When she was 14, she was assaulted and got pregnant.
She gave her child up for adoption. Frollo almost threw her out but the
archdeacon pursuaded him not to throw her out. Frollo agreed but told
Callista her only chance for salvation is to be obedient to him and stay
away from men, after her experiences with her father and being assaulted,
she decided maybe men couldn't be trusted. The archdeacon serves as her
mentor and father figure much more than Frollo. She first meets Quasimodo
when at the Cathedral with her father, when Frollo and the Archdeacon are
once again at odds, Callista sneaks off into the bell tower for some peace
and quiet, forgetting about the bell ringer who lives there. They become
friends right away and romance soon follows.

Callista befriended Clopin, Esmeralda and Phoebus and was furious at
Frollo's lying to Quasi about his mother and his allowing the crowd to
torture him. She was at the FoF when things went ugly. She doesn't regard Esmeralda
as a rival, because of her reluctance to open up.

Why she's better than Madellaine: She doesn't scorn Quasi for his
appearance, and her mission isn't to seduce him so a bell can be stolen. She
also can't be guilt induced for her life - Frollo guilt-induces her for a
while, but she rebels.  And it takes them more than a day, in fact, she has
trouble coming to terms with her feelings, as she has always been betrayed
by men she's trusted.

Teaser:
Young, cynical, strong-willed but caring and considerate. Calista is the
youngest daughter of the corrupt judge Frollo. She is 16. Calista is not
looking for romance, on the contrary, after having being raped and
impregnated at 14, and growing up with an emotionally negligent father, she
believes men are not to be trusted. In a dark, bell-tower a lonely, gentle
bell ringer is looking for love. Calista wonders off into the bell tower for
privacy, where the two meet. Quasimodo's gentleness and innocence earns her
friendship. On her 17th birthday, Calista receives a locket from Quasi that
belonged to her late mother who died giving her birth (Calista's sister was
able to convince Frollo to give it to her, she then gave it to Quasi, who
gave it to Calista). Calista realizes her feelings are more than just
friendship, but is afraid to acknowledge it and to open up: The men she has
opened up to have generally let her down. Can Calista get over her 'men
can't be trusted' attitude, and see the pure, loving heart Quasi has?

I'm about to start on her story very soon.
