| Claude Frollo |
| Voice: Tony Jay Supervising Animator: Kathy Zalinski |
| The deepest, darkest villain to ever come off Disney's drawing boards! The Minister of Justice with the rotten attitude and the funny looking hat is a tough obstacle to overcome and one of the (many) reasons why the movie is so satisfying. I mean, this guy's DEEP! How many other Disney villains sing to the Virgin Mary about their sexual desires? Tony Jay give Frollo the perfect deep, dark, sinister tone. "I was just imagining a rope around that beautiful neck!" Ooooh, chilling! And Kathy Zalinski delivers superb animation. (Frollo is VERY difficult to draw: I've tried it!) The scowl on his face and the subltle details on his outfit make his design extremely complex. He is intentionally one of the most complexly designed Disney characters ever. Judge Claude Frollo is a ruthless, corrupt judge who seems like the last person who would raise a gentle soul like Quasimodo. But he does...to save his own soul. He's the only Disney villain I can think of to worry about the afterlife. Anyway, he raises Quasimodo no better than a slave, tearing apart his soul with cruel words and isolation. Then when he becomes lusful for Esmeralda, he'll go to any lengh to find her. He doesn't even care if he destroys his city while he's at it: his heart is consumed by desire. Eventually, though, his desire leads to his own destruction. Join the Frollo Fan Club! |

| Tony Jay, the voice of Frollo, died on August 13, 2006. He was an acclaimed actor on Broadway and with the Royal Shakespeare Company, but future generations may know him best for the many roles his deep, powerful voice played. He was the voice of Monsouir D'Arque in Beauty and the Beast, Shere Kahn in TaleSpin and The Jungle Book 2, the opening narrator in Treasure Planet, many other roles in various animated TV shows, and of course, his crowning achivement, Judge Claude Frollo. Jay equivilated voicing a Disney character with tasting immortality, because Disney movies last forever. He seems to be right, because even though he is gone, his voice remains, coming out of the mouth of the most complex Disney villain ever. Rest in peace, Tony Jay, we will miss you.
