"La vida es un carnaval" - Life is a carnival

"Carnaval de los negros y blancos" - Karneval der Schwarzen und Weißen - die Spanier erlaubten den afrikanischen Sklaven, die für sie in Kolumbien die Minen ausbeuteten, einmal im Jahr Anfang Januar ein großes Fest zu feiern. Am Tag der Schwarzen malten sich die Spanier schwarz an, am Tag der Weißen wurde sich mit Kreide gebleicht - dieses Prozedere läuft auch heute noch so ab!

"Carnaval de los negros y blancos" - Carnival of the blacks and whites - the Spaniards allowed the African slaves, who had to exploit the mines in Colombia,  to celebrate a big party in the first days of January. At the day of the blacks the Spaniards painted themself with black colour. At the day of the whites the Africans put chalk into their faces. This procedure is nowadays still the same.
