1. "Did you discuss theological matters further, with that ritual group you mentioned before?"

Well, yes, but it didn't seem to be a very productive discussion. Given their open refusal to think about what they were saying, I don't even know why I bothered.

I confronted some of those present with the contradictions inherent in equating some of the beings they referred to as one. A common response on their part was to say that they knew very little about mythology and had little interest in it. Then, I asked, why are you using these names, if you don't know what they represent? The response was that they believed that these were names that had been given to their goddess down through the ages.

But if one has refused to even bother to understand the beliefs behind the names on even the most basic level, what is the basis for thinking this? For that matter, what does it mean to say that a word is one of the names for a particular goddess, if the theological construct corresponding to that name has nothing in common with her?

To those who believe that there is an appreciable common ground in the descriptions of the goddesses that man has worshipped, I would say, take the time to read those myths. You are quite mistaken. Kwan Yin and the Morrigan, are one and the same?

    I should think not.

  2. "This bothers you, doesn't it?"

Oh, most definitely. Religion is about how we connect to the most important aspects of our lives. It should be something done sincerely, from one's heart, not something you do just to sound strange and different, as if on a dare.

Let us be clear. We are not hobbyists. This is our faith, that we are finding. The kind of shallow and trendy posturing represented by the repetition of names or words that one hasn't taken the time to think about (or become informed about) won't go over well, here. We don't expect you to know everything, but we do expect you to make the effort to know something.

Let's return to our main page, now, unless you'd like to continue on to the latest absurdity, along with a discussion of how community is built.
