[INLINE] Re: Personal Problem [re: John]

When somebody tells me that he had to do something because God told him to, I tend to get a bit suspicious. It is all too conveniently non-falsifiable. So, no, I would say that this claim should not get him off the hook with us, unless he can get the deity to drop by and vouch for him. I'm guessing that this is unlikely to occur very soon.

Unless she is acting on her feelings for the interim boyfriend, I don't think that there is anything "incriminating" about those messages. They are private thoughts shared with a friend. Her suspiciousness out of context would be a little troubling, but, again, he did more or less abandon her at one point, so she has ample grounds for wondering just how serious he is. I would agree that this level of instrusiveness is an overreaction, but it is an understandable overreaction, calling for gentle correction, not confrontation, least of all in a triumphal tone.

It does, however, sound like both parties need to learn to start respecting each other's privacy a lot more, and get comfortable with the idea of asserting their own privacy. Openness is a good thing, but even a good thing can be taken too far.
