Hey, here are two courses right now, one in Coptic and another
in Middle Egyptian for you to take, if you have a paltry $ 610
to throw around, plus book expenses, on which Tamara Siuda and
the House of Netjer will be making a 7 to 15 per cent commission.
Ethically, this looks questionable. I don't doubt that Siuda is
qualified to teach these courses. I do remember, when I was looking
for her and the House at our one scheduled meeting to date,
somebody looking up her name and confirming that she was, indeed,
a student in the department she claimed to have been in, and it is
an excellent department.
What is a little disturbing, I think, is to see the words "Her
holiness" appearing in a sales pitch. It would be a little intimidating
for somebody to say to her spiritual leader, to whom she is devoted,
"I'm sorry, Your holiness, but I'm not interested in learning what
Thou wouldst teach me, blessed be Thy name". This would be an
intimidating thing to even think, and gives Ms. Siuda an edge in
selling these courses which could be considered exploitive.
For those who have looked at the course descriptions, and don't know
what "tithing" is, it is the turning over to one's church (or other
place of worship) 10 percent of one's income. That's real money.
I can't help but wonder if this explains the House' repeated
willingness to pander to the online mob : they may be making good
money off of that mob.

The Kemetic Orthodox House of Netjer is proud to sponsor a
special correspondence course in Sahidic Coptic, the form of
spoken ancient Egyptian last used in antiquity. This class will
be taught by our Nisut (AUS), and is a correspondence course that
you can begin at any time.
The course includes 30 written lessons which you will complete at
home, mail to Her Holiness and receive a graded, corrected copy in
return, and audio files to learn the sound and tones of the spoken
language alongside the written script. In addition to at-home work and
work one-on-one with the instructor, students will be given access to
a student-only email list during the course of their lessons.
As this is a correspondence course, you are free to work at your own
pace and can take the course as quickly or as slowly as you desire. No
previous knowledge of Egyptian language is required, though potential
students are encouraged to review English terms of grammar, especially
if they have never taken another language course. Note: Potential
students are encouraged not to attempt this class at the same time as
the Egyptian Hieroglyphs course unless they have previous foreign
language experience.
One book is required for the Sahidic Coptic Correspondence Course:
"Introduction to Sahidic Coptic: A New Coptic Grammar" by Thomas O.
Lambdin. You can purchase this textbook online at:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0865540489/thehouseofnetjerA/10

This course is NOT mandatory instruction for House of Netjer members
at any level (Shemsu, Remetj or probationers), nor is it a part of the
regular free instruction offered by the Kemetic Orthodox House of
Netjer to its congregation, though members are certainly encouraged to
sign up if they are interested.
As this special course with Her Holiness is not part of House of
Netjer official coursework (which is, and always will be, free of
charge), it does have a tuition cost.
Tuition for the Sahidic Coptic course will be:
(Fees given in U.S. dollars; negotiable for
international students)
$450.00 nonmembers ($15 per lesson);
$150.00 House of Netjer probationers, Remetj
and Shemsu ($5 per lesson)
No charge to House of Netjer members who tithe monthly.
As this course is correspondence-based, students can opt either to pay
the full fee in advance, or include payment for each new lesson with
the lesson test (pay-as-you-go). Students paying in advance will
receive an additional $50 off tuition, and a CD-ROM (or cassette tape)
containing the spoken portion of all lessons read aloud by Her
Holiness. Students opting for pay-as-you-go will receive a tape/CD for
each new lesson with their corrected previous assignment, and will be
asked to provide a CD-writeable or blank cassette for that purpose.
Admission to the course is on a rolling basis, as it is mostly
independent and one-on-one study with the Nisut (AUS); and it will be
offered as long as there is interest. Please see the courses link on
kemet.orgif you are interested in taking Sahidic Coptic with Nisut
(AUS). You will be sent further information on the course, including
how to set up the correspondence process.
