Re: Religion and empowerment [re: Ramessu]

Ramessu,

I can not say for sure whether or not you have offended Ankhesenamun, but you have most certainly offended me. You attribute a fondness for misquoting to me, when in fact I am fairly religious on the subject of getting quotes right, both in terms of stating the text correctly, and putting it in the proper context. This, you do in a post in which you do neither when quoting my own reply to you, attributing material I quoted from you, to me, and lifting the quote regarding Ann Frank out of its context. I have little patience with either belligerence or dishonesty, and you have combined the two.

Your history is deceptively incomplete, where it is not altogether inaccurate. Yes, Hitler invited the Jews to leave Europe (not just Germany). However, departure is a futile gesture if, as many who took him up on this suggestion discovered, there are no countries that will let one put into port, and the British navy is blockading the coast of Palestine. (Remember, if you refuse to let refugees in, it's "racism" if the refugees (or even migrants) are from the Third World, but a "respect for national self-determination" should they have come from anywhere in the West). The only alternative posed to fleeing German Jewry was to tread water for four years, in the middle of the Ocean.

Perhaps your family is more athletic than mine, but I don't think that I would be up to that level of physical challenge. As for your imagined victimization by wrongful charges of Nazihood, that is an inversion of what I said in the post you responded to. The facade you maintain may be civil, but your conduct has not been.
