Increasingly, in one sense or another, we are becoming a society of beggars with a sense of entitlement that we don't feel that reasonability should set any bounds on. Instead, we establish a pecking order, those above taking without limit from those below, who hope to balance the extreme demands placed on them by making ever more extreme demands on those who are below them in turn. An ever escalating system, that is, ultimately, unsustainable. Eventually, the demands made will become unbearable for somebody along the line, who will have the sense to balk.
