I have taken up
residence on this world for the past three months. For the
most part, the people seem to tolerate my presence, and a
select few openly seek familiarity. When we first met, O'Neill
offered me the use of his domicile but it is apparent the
dominant military force will not allow me to venture away from
the base. He has begun to teach me of Tau'ri entertainment,
things called "movies" and "sports."
I understand these
"sports," though not completely. Young Jaffa often compete in
physical challenges against one another, but never for
anything other than training and physical conditioning.
O'Neill insists that "sports" are "fun" to participate in. I
have yet to accept his offer of teaching me how to take part
in them.
"Movies" are much more difficult to
understand. They are recorded, fictional tales that appear
realistic and yet seem to serve no useful purpose. They are
not tales of great battles and warriors in this planet's
history, but rather embellished falsehoods that teach nothing
that I can detect.
CaptainCarter has been teaching me
of Tau'ri technology, which she finds entertaining to examine.
I do not understand her fascination with these strange
machines, though I have given what little knowledge I have of
Goa'uld magic. This appears to have won her favor. I am not
certain how, however.
DanielJackson has taught me many
things of his people. I am responsible for his wife being
chosen to host Amounet, and yet he does not hold any grudge
against me. Instead he has extended his hand in friendship,
helping me learn Tau'ri culture. I am most interested in the
music of this world. We have no such instruments as "guitars"
and "pianos." They produce sounds most soothing to the ear
when played in harmony with many other instruments.
Not
all Tau'ri music sounds the same; DanielJackson has explained
that various cultures in different countries have developed
their own styles of expression in this form. I find it odd
that these people would not be united as one, but it appears
to be satisfactory for the Tau'ri.
It is difficult,
living amongst aliens, but not impossible. Perhaps one day,
when I am trusted enough to visit the surface, I shall honor
these friends through Jaffa song so that all may know of their
kindness and respect. For now, I have much to learn of my new
home, with the help of my fellow warriors and friends.
