The True Story Of Christmas

Now a long time ago, the angel Gabriel was sent by God  to the city of Nazareth, to visit a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph. The virgin's name was Mary. And  the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And  you will have a Son and you shall call him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of God.

Now it just so happened that Caesar Augustus decided that everyone should be registered. So everyone had to go to their own cities to register. Joseph was from Bethlehem, and so with his pregnant wife Mary riding on the back of a small donkey, they left Nazareth to make the long journey to Bethlehem.

When they arrived in Bethlehem they found their was no room for them to stay at the inn, and as Mary was soon to have her baby, they took shelter in a small stable. Here Mary gave birth to her baby and named him Jesus as instructed by the angle of God. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger of soft hay.

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem, wise men from the east came who had followed a bright star. And when they came into the stable, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped him. And they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Now  in the country, shepherds living out in the fields,  watching over their flocks, saw an angel, who came to tell them of the miracle birth of the savior.

When the angels had gone away, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go to Bethlehem and see this miracle" And they came and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in the manger.  Then the shepherds returned home,  praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen. And the angels of heaven rejoiced.

And Jesus grew to be a great man... but that's another story.
