| The Identity of Jesus Christ by Timothy W. Burnett |

| The life of Jesus Christ is by far the greatest subject of study. The history of mankind reaches its peak during the period of time recorded in the Gospels. The records of Jesus Christ's life, death and resurrection are numerous, and thanks to God we are blessed with four men of God who faithfully accounted for the life of Jesus Christ from before his conception all the way to his ascension.
As we enter the Christmas season, let us dive into God's words of life everlasting concerning the life of Jesus Christ. More specifically, we will look into the beginning of his life. We start with a basic truth...Jesus' life came from God. God gave Jesus life. It is written, "For as the Father has life in himself, so has He given to the son to have life in himself" (John 5:26). Please notice that the above verse does not say anything about God giving life to Himself. As we study the life of Jesus Christ it is very important that we set aside our own private interpretations as to his identity, and simply let God's word speak for itself. When we begin this research with an underlying belief that Jesus Christ was and is in essence God Himself, we start off on weak footing. Immediately our stumbling begins to break His own laws of genetics when it came to the conception of Jesus Christ. One genetic truth is that the child's life comes from the seed of the father, which impregnates the egg in the woman. Ok...you're probably thinking, "No Duh!" It doesn't take a genetics scientist to figure that one out. According to God's word all of mankind came from one man and one woman. Even unbelieving scientists agree on this matter. Yet, there is no record throughout the scriptures or in all of history where a man conceived himself. Why is this so important? The integrity of God's word is at stake. We know that people are known by their word. If we want to learn how to walk in a close and personal relationship with God in heaven, then we must respect the integrity of His word and let our beliefs match what God says. Let's read some verses that help to define who is Jesus Christ. "And lo a voice from heaven, saying, 'This is My beloved son, in whom I am well pleased'" (Matthew 3:17). "And I knew him [Jesus] not: but He [God] that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, 'Upon whom you shall see the spirit descending, and remaining on him [Jesus], the same is he which baptizes with the holy ghost.' And I saw, and bare record that this is the son of God" (John 1:33-34). See also Mark 1:11 and Luke 3:22. All four Gospels clearly reveal from the start that God introduced Jesus Christ as His beloved son. Just to make sure there is no confusion as to who Jesus Christ is today, God talks about His born-again children in Romans 8:29, "For whom He [God] did know before, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His son [Jesus Christ] that he might be the first born among many brethren." During this period of time in which we currently live, when spirit-filled saints get born again they become Jesus Christ's brothers and sisters. For no other reason than to respect God's word, let's read through and study the first years of Jesus' life with the simple understanding that he was and still is the son of God. |
