The Seance: Like I mentioned previously, my housemates and I attempted a seance a few days after I saw Mark's ghost standing outside my bedroom door. I had gone to a book store earlier in the day to research how to conduct a seance. The book I was reading from stated that six blue candles and six white candles would be needed for this purpose. I knew I had a blue candle at home, and I didn't really didn't think that if a spirit really wished to communicate with someone, that so many candles would be necessary. Later that night I told my housemates what I had read and that all I had was a blue candle. It just so happened that Anita, one of my housemates had a white candle. So we both ran to our rooms to retrieve our candles and my housemates and I all went down into that basement. There were six of us. Anita and I set our candles side by side on a small table and lit them and we all sat down. We didn't do anything formal like sit around a table and hold hands or anything like that. It was very laid back and in fact I don't think any of us knew quite what to do once we were there with our candles lit. Finally Kathy said that since I was the one who saw him that I should be the one to do the talking. That made sense! So I asked aloud, "Mark, are you with us?" We're all sitting there and I'm sure we're all thinking, how is he going to to let us know he's with us? Duh! So I asked again, "Mark if your with us, give us a sign." Suddenly I realized that the flame on my blue candle was flaring up and down very erractically, while the flame on the white was glowing small and steady. I thought at first that it might be a draft making the candle act up but then I thought, Anita's candle is right beside it, and if it's a draft, her's should be doing crazy stuff too, but it wasn't. Then my candle finally settled down, small and steady just like the white candle beside it. So I tried again and asked, "Mark are you with us?" Sure enough the flame on my candle flickered up and down for a few seconds and then grew small and steady. So I told him that I would ask him 'yes' or 'no' questions only and if the answer was 'yes', to make the flame on MY candle flicker wildly and if the answer was 'no', let the flame remain steady. Then I asked him if he understood. Once again the flame danced up and down few seconds and settled!! Then Kathy asked him if he liked me, the, and the candle flame danced and then settled. He liked me! So we continued asking him simple questions like did he enjoy grooming dogs when he attended the school and did he like living in the house etc...Then...I don't know if I made him angry or what happened, and I shouldn't have done this but I asked him that when I finished school and returned to my home state, would he like to come home with me? Thats when things got spooky! The flame on my candle went really wild, it got really tall and flickered, then small and steady, then tall and wild again. It was like he was confused or couldn't make up his mind, and this went on for maybe 10 or 15 seconds before finally going out, but the white candle never reacted once this entire time. I think we all got scared at this point, because soon as the candle went out we all ran upstairs and slammed the basement door shut! Anita had managed to grab her white candle on the way out, but I realized I had forgotten mine in the basement. Naturally no one would come down with me to get it. I did work up the courage to go down and get my candle, but when I got to about the third step, I felt a presence that made my hair stand up on end and I ran back up the stairs. Needeless to say, I left my candle down there and none of us ever entered the basement again for the remaining duration of our stay in the house. |

There have been several experiences that stand out in my mind that may be of interest to your readers. I will tell them one at a time. Please feel free to split them up however you see fit.
All my life I have been able to "feel" things around me that were not visibly there. Those "feelings" just seemed to be part of me and I never questioned them, I mostly just ignored them while I was growing up. When I was 22 yrs old however I could no longer ignore it.
I had rented an upstairs apartment with my then 2yr old son. It was 1979...Mt.Clemens MI, USA. I had been living previously in the downstairs apartment with my Father and his wife and her son for 2yrs with no unusual occurrences. When the upstairs apartment became available I jumped at the chance to get on my own with my son. It was a very small apartment, basically two rooms (living room/kitchen and a bedroom with a bathroom off the bedroom). To the side of the bedroom behind the closet was a small attic area. When we moved into the apartment I didn't notice anything odd about it, or "feel" anything in it. So we were comfy in our own space finally. After about a month, I started hearing the toilet flush in the middle of the night. Since only my son and myself were in the apartment and we were both in bed I knew it was neither of us. It didn't seem frightening at all, just weird enough to wake me up and get my attention. I would shrug it off and go back to sleep, assuming it was some weird plumbing thing which was probably normal but that I had never noticed before. This continued every night, only once a night. Because my son was small I would leave the bathroom light on at night so he could see if he got up for some reason. But of coarse the bedroom light itself would be off.
Our life was quite busy. We were up early in the morning so I could get to my volunteer job working in a pre-school/daycare center at our church. My son would come with me naturally and benefit from the school. We did this five days a week from 7am to 4pm, and then go home. Sundays, were spent at church, mornings and evenings, Tuesday nights I had class in evangelism at my church, and Wednesdays we had church again. My son was with me all the time, usually in the nursery when I was at church or class. So our apartment was empty a lot. Which could be why we never noticed much there.
Then one night we had gone to bed as usual and fell asleep right away......
