| SPELLING LEVEL At the end of the year, students are required to be at the DEVELOPING level in the area of spelling. On the quarterly report card the Spelling Level Block is labeled : Early Emergent (uses mostly letter strings) Emergent (uses mostly consonants) Early Developing *Developing (uses some vowels/endings) Early Independent (uses correct spelling most of the time) The spelling level is determined by required state assessments given to each student quarterly. The spelling tests given weekly help students practice and prepare for the state assessments. |
| WRITING LEVEL At the end of the year, students are required to be at the DEVELOPING level in the area of writing. On the quarterly report card the Writing Level Block is labeled: Early Emergent Emergent Early Developing * Developing Early Independent The writing level is determined by writing samples produced in class and scored using a North Carolina State Writing Rubric. |
| SUMMATIVE PERFORMANCE LEVEL At the end of first grade, an overall reading level is marked on the report card. Students are required to be at a LEVEL 3 or above in the area of Reading. Below is the Performance Code: Level 4- Exceeds Expectations (Above) Level 3- Consistently Meets Expectations (Proficient) Level 2- Inconsistently Meets Expectations (Below) Level 1- Limited Performance (Below) |
