CHRISITNA: Name, Ages and Respective instruments?
BLUE SKY MILE:
KEVIN: guitar old
AARON: guitar 24 and three-quarters
JERRY: VOCALS 22
ADAM: DRUMS 25
MIKE ELLIOT 23 GUITAR AS WELL
CHRISTINA: How did you become a band?
ADAM: Its kind of a weird long story.
CHRISTINA: You can give me the short version [laughs]
ADAM: Well Erin and I are from Baltimore. He moved out to Seattle about two years after I did which was about two and half years ago. And that was when the band started. We were like okay we have to start a band. And I had known these two kids from living in Seattle. We put an add out and met Kevin.
ERIN: It was actually personal add and he knew how to play guitar so it worked out in the end. [Laughs]
CHRISITNA: What did it say?
KEVIN: Striking young lad.
ERIN: Seeks much, much older. Older sugar daddy [laughs]
CHRISTINA: How do you guys go about writing a song?
ADAM: I think we do a lot, a lot of arguing basically. I mean someone has an idea and we try and put things together the way. They make the most sense.
AARON: everyone has different ideas about how things should go and its pulled in so many directions.
We argue constantly aboutIts all just one huge compromise.
MIKE ELLIOT: its all about marinating. Like hell come up with a guitar line or hell come up with a drum beat. And it will just come up with stuff after stuff.
AARON: And usually we will finish the song and two weeks later we will realize that we hate it and be like scratch that song. And six months later someone will come up with something and they will be like hey that would be cool with that one thing that we wrote a long time ago.
CHRISTINA: lyrically where do the lyrics derive from?
JERRY: Ummthe first EP I wrote a lot about myself and personal experiences and shit like that and Ive gotten really, really bored with that so I try not to write about anything that has to do with me at all. Now I just write about a lot of stuff just stuff that is interesting it doesnt have to be meaningful that much. That just stuff that influences me and that means a lot to me and all that kind of stuff. I just got tired and it felt so predictable to be writing about my problems and all that crape.
CHRISTINA: oh you just realized that nobody else cares [Laughs] just kidding.
CHRISTINA: How do you guys like touring? Is it all you thought it would be?
JERRY: I love it.
BLUE SKY MILE: showeringbut you get use to that though.
ADAM: Its a little more work that I thought it would be. But its also more fun than I thought it would be.
ARRON: its one of those things well we are getting to where what we have one more week? You get towards the end and you kind of get this inkling of like well it would kind of be nice to sleep in my own bed. But I know that as soon as I get home and I put down my bag and stare at the wall for like five minutes ill be like I just want to go back on tour. [Laughs]
ADAM: I think it probably took me like a week and I was like the same way.
CHRISTINA: Mike Elliotts run in with the law[LAUGHS]
MIKE ELLIOT: I woke up to an officer of the law.
CHRISTINA: today?
MIKE ELLIOT: no, in Florida.
JERRY: he passed out on the lawn of a house party we were at.
BLUE SKY MILE: it was somebody elses lawn. Hey those were bushes.
MIKE ELLIOT: I was only wearing a pair of boxers [Laughs] and a pair of thong underwear around my neck. So I quickly clothed myself and gave him my license and registration. Tucked the thong underneath my shirt so nobody would notice. It was a thong I had got for my girlfriend. I dont know why I was wearing it. [Laughs]
AARON: we all have pretty good ideas of why he was wearing it.
MIKE ELLIOT: and the officer is like do you know h were you are? I was just looking at the cop like can you give me a hint. [LAUGHS] And I was like Im in Florida I was like yea Im in Florida.
CHRISTINA: how did you guys get signed to Initial Records?
KEVIN: we sent them a demo.
MIKE ELLIOT: no we did more than that we master minded like really coolest artistic graphic design thing we could come up with. All five of us sat down. With cardboard and silkscreen on top and we were like lets put things here and here and here. And we had pictures from kinkos these really, really nice pictures and bios. So we thought it would be cool so we came up with this idea like hey what if we frayed the edges like burnt them. So we well I guess you guys got a hold of three different like grill lighters.
KEVIN: So we spent the whole night covering his deck in ashes.
MIKE ELLIOT: The ashes are still there.
JERRY: we obviously didnt want it to look like everyone elses we wanted to show that we actually spent time on it.
AARON: it was obvious that we wanted to look as good as much as we were into the band. Im sure that labels get hundred of demos a week. And we wanted to stand out. And be like hey we love playing music and this is what we love to do. Kind of make that true.
CHRISTINA: Tell me something about you guys that nobody else knows.
MIKE ELLIOT: In our practice space we have a whole bunch of paraphernalia from this record store that jerry worked out. That apparently got robbed.
JERRY: not apparently it did get robbed and it sucked ass thats why I dont work there anymore.
AARON: tell the story.
JERRY: they like backed a truck through the back wall like the whole back wall. They stole everything in the store they didnt bother to rob the safe. They took the safe [LAUGHS] I went to work and there was like a freaking hole in the wall and everything is gone. So I was like well time to look for another job. So I just got to take the stuff off the walls. We have a big open sign on our practice wall. And we have all the Halloween decoration all over too.
MIKE ELLIOT: We always practice in low light. Like we are playing live to get that feel. And every once in a while we turn off the lights in play in darkness.
AARON: its horrible because we dont know where any of the frets are.
ADAM: its cool cause all the cool sculls glow in the dark so thats pretty cool.
KEVIN: Im trying to think of something that we all do.
CHRISTINA: how was Krazy Fest?
BLUE SKY MILE: Krazy Fest was fun.
ADAM: it was good I think we were all pretty nervous. So it was good to just get it out of the way. We played first so it was good to play and than watch everybody else.
MIKE ELLIOT: well Id say well Id have to say that was probably the best three days of my life. [Laughs]
KEVIN: it was the most people we have ever played for.
ADAM: about 4 or 5 hundred there was probably like a thousand people there but we were like the first band to play so. For us it was great cause we are use to like thirty. [Laughs]
KEVIN: yea, forty is a good night.
CHRISTINA: what is worth more to you guys the actual experience or the memory that remains when the experience is over?
MIKE ELLIOT: that is a good question. I dont think I even understand it. I like the moment and being in the moment and Im usually the one that takes advantage of it so much that it drives the other guys nuts.
KEVIN: yea because you cant remember the moments later [laughs]
MIKE ELLIOT: yea thats usually how it is. Im so much in the moment that I cant bring a memory to my brain.
ADAM: for me its weird. Cause playing shows is great but its definitely not my favorite part about being in a band for me its the people you meet. Definitely by far. I think that Kevin is kind of the same way.
CHRISTINA: if you could give me any advice what would it be?
KEVIN: stay in school.
CHRISTINA: oh no from the old man [Laughs]
JERRY: personally it would be never ever, ever feel like you should feel bad for wanting the things you do.
ADAM: have fun thats why we do this.
AARON: do whatever you want to do. You only live once.
KEVIN: when you get to be my age make sure you use gerital. [LAUGHS] MetaMucil.
