Medal presentation - 44kg Class
On the 7th & 8th May 1982, 64 women representing 15 nations came together to compete at the World Championships in Birmingham, England.

Few were predicting the outcome of the championships, as for the first time the long awaited drug testing procedures for anabolic steroids and stimulants were being carried out by the University of London.  The lifters also took a chromosome test prior to the event and all passed. The event was televised by NBC Sportsworld and World of Sport, with USA capturing 6 of the 10 coveted gold medals.  Britain took second place honours with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals, with Canada placing third.

This was the first time I had represented England at a competition of this level. The photos below are just a few of  the medal winners that I was fortunate to lift alongside. Despite narrowly missing an attempt at a new world deadlift record, my overall total earned me a silver medal.
