He saw the
wildflowers sitting
on the tables.
Everything looked
brand new. The floor
had been scrubbed
and polished and the
couch and chairs had
been covered with a
light blue material.
The house definitely
looked better. In
fact after seeing
the work Corley had
accomplished in two
weeks, Toby felt a
little guilty for
letting the house go
for so long. Just
because his father
had hated it didn’t
mean he had to. He
took one last look
around the living
room before picking
up his bag and
heading upstairs. He
would tell Corley
tomorrow how good of
a job he had done.
He noted all of the
changes upstairs as
he walked through
the loft to the
hall.
You could
actually tell what
the portraits were
that lined the hall.
He walked into his
room and smelled the
fresh scent of
lemons mixed with
lavender. Apparently
Corley had the whole
house cleaned. He
threw his shirt on
the bed and pulled
off his jeans. He
stretched his arms,
and noticed a few
aches in the corded
muscles in his back.
He was tempted just
to fall on his bed
and sleep for a
week, but he was
grungy from the
drive home, so he
walked to the
bathroom and pulled
the door open. He
was astonished to
see the woman of his
wildest fantasies
lying in the tub.
Was she asleep? Was
she real? Maybe he
was so exhausted he
was hallucinating.
