Meeting Guidelines

Sharing and Prayer Time

Because we are primarily a writers' group that prays as opposed to a prayer group that writes, we need to use our limited meeting time wisely.  Remember to share briefly those prayer requests that concern you as a writer.  We will pass around a prayer-request sheet so you can include those and more general prayer concerns.  This sheet will be copied before the end of each meeting to help us remember each other in prayer between our meetings.

If you are unable to attend a meeting, prayer requests will also be posted here.
Getting Ready to Have Your Piece Critiqued

Once you think your piece is ready for group critique, follow these guidelines:

    * Give Lynne a copy of your manuscript -- she'll let you know if you have any more editing to do.

    * When Lynne approves your manuscript for critique, the two of you will decide on a critique date.

    * Send Lynne an email with your manuscript attached so that it can be posted on our Website for members to read.

    * Make copies of your manuscript.

    * Hand out collated copies of your manuscript during the meeting PRECEEDING your critique date (one month before critique).

  The Etiquette of the Critique

  For those critiquing:

    * The best criticism combines honest approval with helpful suggestions for improvement.

    * Never make a negative comment until you have praised the piece for its good features.

    * Avoid being overly picky about grammar or construction.  If you mark grammar/construction changes on your copy, return it to the author so he/she can make corrections later.

  For those being critiqued:

    * The normal tendancy is to explain or defend your writing.  Instead, express thanks for the feedback given and then, on your own, evaluate criticisms and suggestions.

    * Any criticism reflects only the opinion of the individual critic.  The author always has the final voice.

    * Remember, it's the writing being critiqued, not the writer.
