Len's Cades Cove Camping Trip What to do? Go on the nature trails hit the eleven mile loop road or intertube down the river or just ride bicycles. We wanted to try it all, but didnt get to.I arrived in Cades Cove before 6:00 pm Friday night. The Park rangers were very helpful. I got to pick my sight from what was left in the section that I had reserved. There were plenty of open camp sights. I found a sight in the middle of everything. I mean in the middle of the map that the rangers had given me. I wanted to be in the middle of every thing and away from the bears. To my thinking the bear might get around the outside of the camp sight but not the center. I did get to see bear latter when we took the bicycles around the eleven mile loop road.
The eleven mile loop road in the truck came first. The bear in the top picture was on the second turn around cutting across the cove. The roads that cross the middle of the cove are less traveled and have more wildlife in the open.
I unpacked everything from the truck and set up camp. The camp sight next door had the same tent I had. I couldnt pass up a chance to tell all my tent tails in telling them what to expect from there tent . I had my tent for two years while theirs were new. Jeremy and Amy Westfall were very nice people who were helpful in getting my camp set up.
Another stop on the loop road is the Shields Cabin cemetery. There are many cemeteries in the park. My wife and I visit all the cemeteries we can and record the names on the stones and try to date the cemetery.
To finish off the trip we took the bicycles around the loop road. Rain on the last day stoped us from tubing but setting out the thunder storm was the best part of the trip
