MY SEX LIFE IS NOBODY ELSE'S BUSINESS! The impeachment of William Clinton gave birth to a loud rallying cry from the liberals in our country. Ignoring the issue of perjury and obstruction of justice, the Democrats desperately tried to convince us that the real issue was one of sexual mores (or lack thereof). Attached to that claim was the cry that Bill's sex life was his own private affair and we, the people, had no right to probe into it! For the sake of argument, let's assume that the issue really was sex . . . were the Democrats right to say it was none of the public's business? This idea came out of the "sexual revolution" of the Baby Boomer generation. Anyone old enough to remember the 1960's will have heard the great cliche, "What consenting adults do behind closed doors is their own business." This seems to be the origin of our current thought. We wanted very much to be able to say that our sexual misbehavior had no effect on anybody else, and therefore, we should be allowed to commit adultery, sodomy, fornication (does anybody even remember that term?) or any other deviant type of behavior without rebuke. What seems to have been lost was the slogan of the previous generation, "No man is an island"! The plain fact is that our actions DO have consequences!!! We need not think that we will be able to hide our actions from anybody for very long. The things we do will soon be known by every child in the entire neighborhood. When we, as a society, allow these violations of our moral code to go unchallenged and unrebuked, we are teaching our children the following: 1). that thing which was unchallenged is acceptable to do 2). our moral code (which condemned that act) is unimportant 3). the giver of that moral code was less than competent. 4). any of society's rules can be ignored under the right circumstances. When we teach our children this kind of "ethic" at home and send them to a public school system which has adopted a Value-Free Education philosophy, we can expect that our children will have no moral values. This can be clearly seen in the number of shootings in our schools, and the increase in other crimes committed by youths. Jesus said that, "there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known." For the very least of us, it is inappropriate to violate the law of God -- even with another consenting adult and behind closed doors. How much more, then for our national leaders! If we care about leaving our societal structure in place for our children and their descendants, it is our responsibility to teach them moral values. Part of that teaching must include the knowledge that we do not condone violations of that moral code. Anything less will lead to the ultimate destruction of our nation. Yes, Mr. Clinton, your private immorality IS our business because no man is an island! " . . . Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments AND TEACHES MEN SO, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5: 18b, 19. |
