I probarbly wouldn't have cared for it at all if I wouldn't have liked the book! This movie could have been so much more. I have definitely lost all respect for Chris Columbus with this one. I actually sat down and read the book before I went out to see it. The book was just awesome. It had sucked me straight into it, and was nothing short of pure magic. The movie however felt more like badly written Cliff Notes. There was no thought to this at all. I liked however the Production Design, Stuart Craig did an awesome job in visualizing the book. I also liked the cast, which was very well put together. This movie has no magic, the script lacks several rewrites and tweaks and Chris Columbus has definitely managed to put himself on the bottom of my directors list.
