"The Family Down The Street"

As I came home yesterday,

I watched the children outside at play.

Some of the kids where from the family down the street

Torn jeans, dirty t-shirts and no shoes on their feet.

I have heard from that house the yelling, the cries, and the fears.

I have seen the children sitting outside in tears.

I ignored what I have seen, Do not get involved I would say.

I thought that way until this one day.

As I called in my own children,

“Lets get ready for church” I said,

One of the boys asked to go with us.

Knowing the child, I shuddered with dread.

Then Christ whispered to me,

he may be rowdy, but he’s mine too.

I smiled and agreed,

I knew what I must do.

I walked down the street and knocked on the door,

His mother looked tired, and graciously said yes.

He hurried to get ready, with excitement on his face,

and promised his mother he would act his best.

The service was moving, spirit filled and true,

I looked at the child setting on the front pew.

He fidgeted, and squirmed, but listened to what was said.

I watched as the child lowered his head.

The pastor had said “Is you heart right?”

“Won’t you accept Jesus, into your life tonight?”

I watched a tear fall from the eye of the boy,

he took a step out, my heart filled with joy.

He prayed and accepted Christ into his heart,

Then requested a prayer from all that would pray,

“Will you pray for my mom and dad.

So they will be saved too someday?”

The point of my story, is what if I had said no,

turned away the child, and not let him go,

Christ wants us to share, and pray for the lost

It just takes a moment of our time, He paid all the cost.

So do get involved, and share your joy

For if I had followed my will, and not listened to Christ

Salvation may have not come for this boy.
