How can a Christian be "free" and dutiful" at the same time? Christ makes us free through His death and taking our sins away for us giving us the freedom to do what He asks us to do. We are able to follow Christs commands once we have asked for forgiveness. We become dutiful to Christ because that is what Christ wants of us. Christ wants us to study his commands, learn from them, become more Christ like by following his commands, loving others, helping others, becoming servants like Christ, becoming dutiful to his requests of us. Free to follow what God has asked us to do.
