Giving and Receiving Help
1. What did I experience from the excercise?
Through my past I have seen how others might feel if they had problems that they were lost to solve themselves. Not knowing where to turn, who to talk to, feeling guilt about my own problem, completely lost to what to do can be a debilitating experience to a person. I know that I am not alone in these feelings and that there are others that will help. I do know that it is not always easy to ask for that help.
2. Why is help somtimes hard to accept?
I believe that people hope to be able to correct their mistakes or move out of situations on their own. They believe that when they have dug themselves into an adverse situation then they should be able to get out of it on their own. And as well there may be a feeling of guilt to what has happened. Other family members may be involved and that may be difficult for the person to deal with as well.
3. Implications of this exercise - active training etc.
One must be always on the alert for ways to approach someone with a problem. It may not be easy to connect with that person or to break through to offer assistance. But the one thing that is important is to offer the help as soon as possible.
