Johnny Cash
1932 - 2003
"How think ye? If an man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine that went astray."
- Matthew 18:12 - 14 -

"And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled."
- Luke 14:23 -

Christianity is not about politics, it is not about science. It is about one person, Jesus, God's Son. Being a servant of Jesus Christ means that you strive to be like Him. This means loving enemies, conversing with sinners, ministering to the 'poor and beaten-down', the outcasts. Loving enemies and outcasts is a truly revolutionary aspect of Jesus' message and Johnny Cash's 'Man in Black' persona embodied this crucial aspect of the Faith.

By choosing certain topics for his songs, by playing in prisons, by rallying for the underdog, by signing with the american recording label, Johnny went out into the highways and hedges shining the Light of the Gospel in a world of darkness. He was a man who was not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ and as a result he gained the respect and friendship of Legendary Evangelist Billy Graham and he also gained the respect of younger generations (most notably the generations that grew up in a world of computers, video games, and Mtv).

Johnny acted like the comforting rod and staff of the Great Shepherd. He acted like a shpeherd's staff because his music reached out into the world of sin and rebelliousness in order to share the Message of the Gospel with the lost sheep and restore them to the flock.

The following Bible verse is about John the Baptizer:
"There was a mant sent from God whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world."
John 1:6 - 9
Like John the Baptizer, John the 'Man in Black' pointed to the Light that is Jesus Christ.
