The reason for children working in the carpet production is also due to shortage of money in the family.
Especially in Paktistan child labour in carpet production is widespread.
Children start working in this business with the age of seven. At this age their fingers are small and very suitable for knotting.
Because these children work twelve hours a day to make carpets they have no time for school education. Earning money to stay alive is more important.
The working conditions are harsh. Pointed objects make the work dangerous, heat, no comfort, lack of hygiene and non-stop working causes pain in their hands, but the children have to ignore that and keep on working.
Many other factories would probably not be able to survive without child labour. They depend on it. Due to this fact no one is able to say when an end is being put to child labour.
