Welcome

Hello, welcome to the home of Christian Evolution. "What?" you say. Aren't they supposed to be in opposition to each other? I hope by the end of reading this page you will be convinced Christianity requires evolution and the Big Bang. This page is the result of much thought and internal debate. This page is my own. While others may share my beliefs, they are still uniquely mine. This page acts from the assumption the Christian God exists. While I believe this is open to debate, it's beyond the scope of this page. Please enter with an open mind.

A Not-so Static World

I felt like this section needed to be added, because I've been getting e-mails that I feel like the writers don't understand this.

Some people believe we live in a static world where evolution has stopped. Humans have stopped evolving physically simply because medical technology make sure less and less people die due to physical disabilities. They remain around and reproduce despite having a disablitly. While I believe this is a good thing, It has stopped physical evolution; however, we are still evolving psychologically, socially, and spiritually.

But the world around us is still changing, evolving. Many other species are evolving. These include: as ntdantam pointed out, the horseshoe crab, there is a species of moth that has changed colors, bacteria are evolving to resist antibotics. These are just some of them. Many species are also going extinct, with and without our help. But you must remember that we have been around a relativly short time so were not going to see any major changes for a long, long time.

Another good example of a changing world is Surtsey. Surtsey is an island in the middle of the Atlantic. And it's less than 40 years old!!! In 1963 a volcano spewed up ash and junk. Eventually, this started to form an island. This is exactly how researchers believe Iceland was formed.

So as you can see, our world is still changing and growing, and it will continue to as long as it's around.

Copernicus

I have heard my last fundamentalist Christian comparing evolution and the Big Bang to the geo-centric theory (the Earth is the center of the universe) and saying just because educated people accept it doesn't mean it's true. I shall now make myself a hypocrite and do just what I hate in reverse.

Before Copernicus figured out the Earth revolved around the sun, everyone "knew" God had made us the center of the universe. It was decades before it was generally accepted; it was centuries before everyone was convinced. The first man to suggest they're other planets was burned alive. Before Darwin everyone "knew" God made the universe in 6 days.

Do you see the pattern. The church has long felt it's in opposition to science. Each time we've thought God made us special, we were wrong. Evolution is much like the helio-centric theory (the Earth revolves around the sun). But still people feel threatened by it. I'm not saying they are absolutely certain. They could be wrong, but all the evidence supports them. But in 50 years, who knows?

Exposing the 6 days myth

There was an Eve. Science has verified that. You see, you're mitochondrial DNA always comes from your mother. You and I have the same mitochondrial DNA. This is because we can trace our roots back to a common mother, Eve. If God revealed himself to Eve, she probably would have wanted an explanation. God would have revealed himself to early man because how can you worship something you don't know about? He therefore needed a metaphor. You try and explaining the Big Bang to them. Thus, creationalism was born.

Why the Big Bang and Evolution

What if God did create the world in 6 days and science had verified it? Scientists recognize a God does exist; furthermore, because the world was created in 6 days, scientist have verified that the Christian God is supreme. Now scientists flock to Christianity by the drove. They believe in Christianity because of science, not faith. Is that what God wants? No, God wants us to believe in Him by faith alone. So God created science. For God to create science and then create science in a method totally unscientific would be a contradiction, right? It also seems to me that Christians want proof of creationalism. They quickly point out every flaw and hole in the theory, and they are slow to point out the overwhelming evidence for it. They loosly tie christianity to a theory after it's been proven and then look on the success of that theory as a score for Christianity. Again I will say, why try and prove Christianity if God wants you to believe in Him by faith alone.

Parting Thoughts

God may not have chosen the Big Bang or Evolution. We may not know how he did it, yet, but most evidence supports it. Sure, there are holes, as in most theories. In one state, I forget which, Evolution can't be taught in schools because it can't be laboratory tested. By that logic, they can't teach history. You can't laboratory test that George Washington was our first president. To laboratory test it you must be able to repeat it over and over. You can't do that. It was an event. However, you can say that here is the evidence for it. That's evolution. There are probably holes in my theory as well. I invite you to e-mail them to me. I promise to post all "clean" e-mails, even if they don't look favorably on my views. Please, give me at least 2 weeks to read the e-mail, think of a response, and post it. Please specify if you want your e-mail posted and if you want your address posted.

This was such a nice reply, I had to post it; however in the future, I will avoid posting most replies, unless I think they are well written, but I promise not to show favoritism by choosing only replies that support my beliefs. I will not ever post replies of replies.

I'm glad ChristianEvolution is bridging cultures. This was a lovely e-mail and I'm sure it would be better if I could understand it all.

Okay I have two now, but one isn't evolution related; some guy just sent me an e-mail so I thought I'd be nice, plus it was a really cool site; GO TO IT. If you would like a link to be included, e-mail me. I'm also starting a webring so you may ask that it be included.

Always Remember to Laugh

Here is where I will post funny stories, etc. You can e-mail them to me if you want. I have a couple to start off with.

I'm sitting in World History, and the teacher is explaining how Columbus wasn't afraid of falling off the Earth because it was generally excepted by educated people that the earth was round (which, of coarse, I had to explain was because of Aristotle), but some villiagers and such still believed it was flat. Some people in my class were having trouble with that so I stepped in with an analogy (bet you see where this is going). I said that it's generally accepted by intellegent people that people evolved and has been for a while, but some ignorant people still hold on to the idea that the world was created in 6 days. The teacher looks at me, laughs, and say that he can't say that because it's a value statement but basically, yeah.

A scientific evalutation of evolution in the "X-men" movie: While humans have basically stopped evolving physically except for minor things like an increase in height, it is conceivable that eventually we could be radically different, not matter how unlikely; however, it is unlikely the evolutionary advantages given in the movie, i.e. flying, controling the weather, regeneration, will evolve, because of there unusual nature and the lack of pressure to evolve. Assuming that they do, they could appear in one generation, as there is little possiblitly you will expirence partial control of the weather, but they would have started forming only shortly after walking erect. If they did start to form after that, it is conceivable that different off-spring of the first humans began to develop different powers, not to the point where they could use them, but that because of breeding all powers of a race would be present in almost everyone person in that race. Furthermore, because we all came from a common race (whether you want to admite it or not at one time you had black ancestors), and since it would have had to appear soon after walking erect to appear now, all powers would be present in all people. Now at this early stage not all powers will manifest in all people, but if it is true evolution then at some point all the powers will have manifested in all the people. This of coarse assumes that the powers give them so advantage over the common person. This is quite conceivable if the tension would escalate to the point of war, as it would make them far superior in combat. Nuclear weapons would be of little use since there is no target; they would be using gureilla warfare. While I probably don't get points for clarity, it should be understandable, and maybe a little funny.
